If you’ve ever layered two pairs of socks and still had freezing toes, you’re not alone. Sometimes even the warmest wool socks aren't enough. While battery-powered socks sound gimmicky, they can be a game-changer during the colder months, especially for outdoor activities like hiking. Unlike standard socks, they'll actively heat your feet when turned on and come with multiple warmth levels. That said, not all are created equal.
At the Good Housekeeping Institute Textiles Lab, our analysts tested six popular heated socks from well-known brands in the heated gear space, logging over 26,000 data points to discover which ones actually keep your feet warm. Some ran hotter than expected, some were surprisingly soft, and a few didn’t quite live up to the hype. These are our top three heated socks for women and men, based on in-Lab and real-world consumer testing.
