7 Best Leaf Mulchers and Yard Vacuums of 2025, Tested by Experts

If mulching is your top priority, the Toro delivers impressive results at a budget-friendly price. This corded 3-in-1 tool works as a leaf blower, vacuum, and mulcher, with a powerful metal impeller and a 16:1 mulch reduction ratio that finely shreds dry leaves into compost-ready material. In our testing, the mulch output was consistently fine and even, making it ideal for gardeners who want to repurpose yard waste as ground cover or compost.

The Toro also stands out for its lightweight build and variable speed control, which provide more precision when switching between leaf piles and delicate flower beds. The vacuum mode is strong enough to handle mid-size yard cleanups, and switching between blower, vacuum, and mulcher functions is quick and tool-free, thanks to an intuitive latch system.

The corded design can be a drawback if you are working far from an outlet. You will likely need an outdoor-rated extension cord, especially for larger properties. For small to medium yards, this Toro model is a smart pick for anyone who wants to reduce leaf volume and create mulch quickly without spending too much.

For homeowners looking to go cordless without spending a fortune, this 3-in-1 tool from Greenworks is a standout value. It functions as a blower, vacuum, and mulcher, offering impressive performance for the price. Customers report strong suction power even on the lower settings, and its mulching capability is designed to compact leaves and debris at a high ratio, allowing up to 4.5 bags’ worth of yard waste to fit into one.

The tool runs on Greenworks’ 40V battery platform and includes a variable-speed dial that provides more control during cleanup. While we have not tested this model in the Lab, user feedback suggests it performs reliably for small to medium yards, especially where portability is a priority. Greenworks also includes a four-year tool warranty and a two-year battery warranty, which adds peace of mind at this price point.

One potential drawback is battery runtime. As with most cordless tools, performance can be limited during heavy mulching sessions. But for regular dry leaf maintenance and light to moderate yard debris, this Greenworks model offers solid value and convenience for homeowners who want to skip the cord.

Ryobi’s 40V HP Brushless blower and vacuum is a top pick for its standout mulching performance, especially for homeowners with a lot of leaves to clear who want to make the most of every bag. The tool features an impressive 600 CFM of suction power and a large 10.5-gallon collection bag. But the real highlight is its 20:1 mulching ratio, which compresses 20 bags of leaves into just one. That made it especially useful in extended cleanups, letting us work longer without stopping to empty the bag.

It switches between vacuum and blower modes using a control knob on the handle. While that part is easy, changing between functions still requires swapping attachments, which made it feel less seamless than other models with all-in-one nozzles. That said, the kit includes two 4.0 Ah batteries, which ran the tool for over 30 minutes at full power in our tests—a solid runtime for a high-powered cordless vacuum.

“The one drawback is the metal impeller was a little more prone to jamming when sucking up harder stuff like twigs,” said Alec Scherma, test engineer at the Good Housekeeping Institute. Still, he noted that for dry leaves, the Ryobi offered powerful suction and highly efficient mulching that made yard cleanup faster and easier overall.

If you've ever struggled with a heavy shoulder bag full of damp leaves, a backpack-style vacuum like the Craftsman CMEBL7000 can be a more comfortable and practical solution. This corded 3-in-1 tool combines blowing, vacuuming, and mulching in a compact but powerful package. With 450 CFM of air volume and an airspeed of up to 260 MPH, it performed impressively in our tests, especially for its price point.

The backpack design helps distribute weight more evenly than traditional handheld models, which can make a big difference during longer cleanup sessions. Our experts noted that the built-in mulching system does a good job of reducing leaf volume, helping homeowners clean more efficiently. While the impeller is made of plastic, which may not hold up as well as metal over time, it handled dry leaf debris with no issues during our evaluation.

One downside is the zippered collection bag, which needs to be fully opened to empty. This design can occasionally lead to jams if leaves get stuck at the opening. Still, for small to medium yards, especially those with lots of trees, this Craftsman offers solid mulching performance in a more ergonomic form factor than most corded models.

The Black+Decker BV6000 is a compact but capable pick that’s ideal for users who need a smaller tool for tight spaces like under porches or around flower beds. Weighing just 8.1 pounds, this 3-in-1 blower, vacuum, and mulcher offers plenty of power for its size, with air speeds up to 250 miles per hour and a 16:1 mulch ratio. It is a solid choice for small yards or more detailed cleanup jobs where maneuverability matters.

The lightweight design makes it easy to handle, even during longer sessions, and the quick-release latch on the collection tube simplifies the emptying process. The included bushel-size collection bag holds a decent volume of shredded material, and the high-speed motor handles dry leaves and smaller debris efficiently. It is plug-in electric, so you will need to manage a cord, but the consistent power and low weight make it a great option for quick jobs.

Keep in mind that its smaller size means you may need to empty the bag more frequently during larger cleanups. But if you are working in a compact area or want a lightweight tool that still delivers strong mulching performance, this Black+Decker model is a smart, affordable pick.
