Here at Good Housekeeping, we’re experts at all things snowstorm, from helping you keep your home's pipes from freezing to recommending the perfect soup recipe to enjoy while you're cuddling up indoors. So when the latest blizzard dropped a foot of powder on the NYC area, we thought it was a good opportunity to share what boots we actually reached for. Many of our favorites have been vetted by the GH Textiles Lab in our winter boots guide and have kept us warm while shoveling and trekking through slippery streets during our commutes. We also included a few new additions that have gotten us all through the worst of weather.

"I splurged on a pair of Sorel Caribou boots in 2010, six months after I moved to New York City. These intrepid shoes have gotten me through record-breaking winters in the city, snowshoeing in Colorado, Vermont, and New Jersey, and snow blowing and shoveling my long driveway in the suburbs with toasty, dry feet. They’re easy to get on and off, and relatively lightweight for a sizable boot. Highly recommend!" —Beth Dreher, Good Housekeeping Executive Editor

"I’ve had these ultra-comfortable boots for over three years. The cozy micro-fleece lining makes them feel like slippers—something I actually look forward to putting on. I run excessively cold (thank you, Raynaud’s), and while they don’t keep me as warm as UGGs do, what I love about them is that there’s plenty of room at the ankle (they have adjustable laces) to wear my thickest heated socks underneath.

With that combo, they kept me dry and toasty after an hour of sledding during a 10°F snowy day in Montreal this winter, and because they’re so lightweight, they’re a great commuting shoe for any wet NYC treks to the office. Oh, and PS, they're on super sale right now." – Brie Schwartz, Good Housekeeping Commerce Director

"These Camper boots feature rubber soles that carry the Michelin name—so yes, these boots are basically inspired by tires. And that's exactly the vibe I get while wearing these—they're perfect for an icy or slushy commute with lots of walking without looking like a seasonal snow boot. Plus, I've been wearing these for two years, and they've held up like brand new." —Elspeth Velten, Good Housekeeping Editor-in-Chief

"I got these boots two winters ago to test for the Good Housekeeping Textiles Lab, and they’ve officially earned a permanent spot by my front door. They’ve passed every real-life test I’ve thrown at them—from accidentally stepping into an ankle-deep puddle of slush to trekking through snow that hit my shins. My feet stayed completely dry and genuinely warm every single time. Perhaps most importantly, they're easy to slip on and off!” —Susan Choung, Good Housekeeping Recipe Editor

Bean Boot 8

"When all else fails, my trusty Bean Boots from L.L.Bean save the day. I've been wearing this same pair on the streets of NYC since I bought them 15 years ago. 15 years! They are warm, waterproof, and comfortable for walking—plus, they're iconic enough that I sometimes just keep them on all day as part of my office outfit." —Elspeth Velten, Good Housekeeping Editor-in-Chief

"These boots have quickly become my go-to on snow days. They’re incredibly warm and cozy, with a soft, fuzzy lining that makes them feel comfortable from the moment I put them on. I love the mid-height—it gives me the coverage and protection I want without feeling too tall or bulky. They keep my feet dry and protected in wet weather, but they’re still lightweight and easy to walk in.

The lace-up front makes them simple to adjust, and they dry quickly after being out in snow or slush. Overall, they’re just really practical, comfortable winter boots that don’t feel heavy or overbuilt." —Tina Martinez, Good Housekeeping Food Producer

Snowclog

"What are snow clogs, you ask? Salomon has the answer. These soft, warm slip-ons come with heavy-duty treads that have made climbing over snow mounds to cross the street easy (without the heavy lift of pulling on more serious boots every time I have to pop outside for an errand). A review on Salomon.com refers to these as outdoor slippers, and I couldn't agree more." —Elspeth Velten, Good Housekeeping Editor-in-Chief

"I've had these L.L. Bean snow boots for 7.5 years. I got them as a high school graduation gift before I went to college in upstate New York, and they haven't failed me once. Every winter, I've walked through thick piles of snow and dirty slush in these shoes, but my feet stayed warm and dry. My feet somehow don't overheat in them either (it feels like I'm wearing warm slippers). They still look like they're fairly new, so I think they're worth the investment if you live somewhere cold. They're comfy to walk in too." —Isabella Cavallo, Good Housekeeping Commerce Editor

"These have been my snow day go tos for a few years now! They're super lightweight and comfortable, and I like that they cover up my legs. The faux fur lining on top helps prevent snow from sneaking inside. I also think they're more attractive than some of the bulkier snow boots I'm used to! And they're fairly affordable. Definitely winners." —Olivia Lipski, Good Housekeeping Senior Reviews Writer & Analyst

"I love these boots for long walks or hikes in cold weather or light snow. They keep my feet dry and warm without overheating, and they're incredibly comfortable to walk in. Most snow boots feel clunky and heavy on my feet, but these Merrells are lightweight, and they're as comfortable as my other hiking boots. I loved wearing them when I went hiking in Maine in November, and my feet stayed warm even when the temperature was in the low 30s and high 20s." —Isabella Cavallo, Good Housekeeping Commerce Editor
