Whether you're interested in a more va-va-voom style or just want some light shaping, the Textiles Lab in the Good Housekeeping Institute has tested more than 65 different bras—including over a dozen push-up bras—to help you find a push-up bra that holds up after being stretched out and laundered. My breasts are round but sit lower on my chest, so a good push-up bra, like our best overall pick, the Love Cloud Smooth Push-Up Bra from Victoria's Secret, elevates them for a better fit in some of my favorite tops and dresses, and it can do the same for you.
My favorite part of bra testing is sharing them with consumer testers of all different shapes and sizes to hear what real users actually think about their fit, function, and if the bras are actually cute. I selected these picks based on my personal years of experience wearing them, Textiles Lab testing data, and consumer tester feedback.
Our top picks:
- Best overall: Victoria's Secret Love Cloud Smooth Push-Up Bra
- Best value: Maidenform DreamWire Push Up Underwire Bra
- Best plunging neckline: Skims Teardrop Push-up Bra
- Best for large busts: Curvy Couture Tulip Lace Push Up Bra

Pros
Testers loved the soft, smooth material
Deep neckline remains hidden under low-cut tops
Easy to care for and performed well in wash tests
Cons
Some testers said the metal "v" between the cups dug into skin
This Victoria's Secret bra with a deep-plunge neckline is ideal for wearing under a low-cut top or dress. It has padding along the sides of the cups for a more natural-looking lift, and you can convert the bra to a racerback style for even more cleavage.
TEST RESULTS: Consumer testers said it stayed securely in place throughout the day without shifting or peeking out of their clothes. They also appreciated the smooth and stretchy material. One 38C tester shared that it was so soft and comfortable that she barely noticed it was on. I own this style and love Victoria's Secret's bras for the buttery material lining the inner cups.
Although most testers liked the look of the metal "v" embellishment between the cups, some said it occasionally dug into their skin and felt uncomfortable. I never experienced this issue, but it's good to note if you're particularly sensitive.
When we repeatedly machine-washed this bra in the Textiles Lab, we were impressed by how well the bra held up without major changes in appearance, meaning it should stay in good shape when you're laundering it at home; however, the brand recommends hand-washing for longevity.

Pros
Delicate lace detail between the cups helps bra lie flat against the ribcage
Maidenform earned top marks in tests for quality and comfort
Demi-cup style provides moderate coverage
Cons
Convertible straps can come unhooked in back
I recommend this bra for anyone looking for a more natural lift and moderate coverage because of the demi-cup design. Maidenform was a top-performing brand in our most recent round of intimates tests, in part because of the affordable prices, but mostly because of the high-quality styles. This bra in particular has a delicate lace criss-cross gore between the cups to help it lie flat against the ribcage. The smooth and shiny material and a comfortable, cushioned underwire for support are also standout features.
If you're really looking for some extra oomph, the bra straps can be converted to a racerback style for added lift and support. Just note that sometimes convertible straps can come undone—the hooks slipping out of the loops—which can lead to a wardrobe malfunction, but these straps seemed pretty secure when I evaluated the bra in the Textiles Lab.
TEST RESULTS: Several bras from Maidenform have received high scores in our Lab and consumer tests, beating out higher-priced bras from popular retailers. Testers with cup sizes A through D gave the brand's bras top marks for comfort and fit and shared that the bras stayed in place all day without poking, prodding, or digging in.
I and other GH analysts also appreciate the smooth, luxe material of Maidenform's bras, which looks and feels great under clothes. One user who tried the push-up bra for us reported no signs of gapping at the cups or slipping straps—a perfect fit.
| Band size | 32–40 |
| Cup size | A–D |
| Material | Nylon and spandex blend |
Pros
Inclusive range of six nude shades
Silky, smooth material feels great
Unique design for natural cleavage and shaping
Cons
Runs snug, so brand recommends sizing up if in-between sizes
Skims's push-up bra was thoughtfully designed using 3D scans of real women's breasts, so it can actually fit different figures accurately. The unique teardrop-shaped cups lift the chest with added padding on the sides, eliminating bulk and allowing for maximum cleavage with a natural shape. The plunging neckline is particularly ideal for lower-cut tops too.
One thing I and other GH analysts love about Skims bras is the inclusive range of "nude" shades the brand offers, with six skin-tone colors plus black to choose from for a more natural, camouflaged look under clothing. The material is silky smooth with a high shine.
TEST RESULTS: We and seemingly everyone else loves Skims's bras, as collection drops from the brand repeatedly sell out. This style is my personal favorite push-up bra and my favorite product from Skims. The bra adds the perfect amount of cleavage (a lot without feeling like I'm spilling out of it) and smooths the chest for a full and rounded look.
Because the bra is meant to really lift the breasts, the band can feel snug, according to the brand. I fluctuate between a 32- and 34-inch band and opted for the larger size for a more comfortable fit. When I laundered the bra at home, it also held up well without changing in appearance. It even looks great when I pull it out of my crammed underwear drawer, keeping its shape without puckering.

| Band size | 30–44 |
| Cup size | A–F |
| Material | Nylon and elastane blend |
Pros
Thick straps for comfortable feel
Band sizes up to 46 and cup sizes up to H
Sides made of power mesh material provide smoothing and breathability
Cons
Rhinestone and lace details can be difficult to conceal under clothing
With band sizes through 46 and cup sizes through H, this push-up style from Curvy Couture is a bra made specifically for those with large chests. Wide-set straps provide the support bigger busts need, and the straps are thick, which keeps them from digging into shoulders and causing unwanted irritation.
The sides of the bra band are made of a power mesh material for a smoothing effect, and the u-shaped design helps prevent the bra from riding up your back.
TEST RESULTS: Because this style is specifically designed for larger busts, it offers push-up padding but no so much that it leads to bouncing or bulging over the cups. It's still a fuller coverage style.
The bra features lace detailing with rhinestone embellishments, so I would note that it may be difficult to conceal the bra completely under clothes, but the brand carries less-embellished options if you want something more discreet.
The power mesh fabric designed for smoothing is also ideal for breathability—the material isn't completely opaque, so it allows air to make its way through, preventing sweaty bra bands—my least favorite part of wearing a bra.

Pros
Designed specifically for small chests with shallower cups and shorter underwires
Testers loved the seamless fit of Pepper bras, with no gapping
Maintained shape after being stretched, an indicator that it will stay supportive over time
Cons
Some testers struggled to find the right size
Pepper designs its bras exclusively for small chests, including those with AA, A, and B cups with band sizes 30 to 42. Instead of just taking a bra designed for larger cups and then sizing it down, this one is actually made with thoughtful details like shallower cups and shorter underwires.
If you prefer a bra without an underwire like me, Pepper recently launched a wireless version with push-up padding that online reviewers loved and I recommend.
TEST RESULTS: Our consumer testers who tried bras from Pepper were happy to find a style that fit their chests without gapping or slippage. They were also blown away by how great their chests looked in Pepper's fan-favorite T-shirt bra, which finally provided the support they needed, even without the extra-padded push-up of this featured style. One tester explained, "The cups make my breasts look rounder and fuller at the top."
A few testers struggled to find their proper size because they weren't used to shopping for properly fitted bras, so be sure to review the size guide before buying instead of just sticking with your typical size.
The bras performed well in our stretch recovery and washability tests, meaning they should maintain their shape with regular use and should feel supportive over time. While we thought the bras looked great with no major signs of wear, some testers noted issues with the material fraying after laundering.
| Band size | 30–42 |
| Cup size | AA–B |
| Material | Polyamide and elastane blend |
Pros
Attractive mesh detail loved by testers
Half-cup sizes available to help you find better fit
Testers said bra felt lightweight and airy
Cons
Some shrinkage in wash tests, so it's best to hand wash
If you don't normally wear a push-up bra but just want to have the option, ThirdLove's take on the push-up bra has removable padding. Leave the inserts in for a more pronounced look, or take them out for an easy, everyday style.
Regardless of whether you choose to use the padding or not, the bra has a low, plunging neckline that's easy to wear under deeper tops. And it comes in half-cup sizes in case you're in-between cups or your chest size fluctuates depending on the time of the month. (I opt for the D1/2 for my best fit).
TEST RESULTS: I love to bring an adjustable bra like this while I'm traveling, since it acts like two separate bras in one and takes up less space in my bag. According to our consumer testers, the bra's material is smooth and lightweight, with one tester describing it as "airy."
The bra received near-perfect scores for appearance, thanks to the cleavage-enhancing neckline and cute mesh detail. Referring to the mesh material, one tester shared, "It made it more than just your average everyday full-coverage bra and felt a little sexy!" Testers also gave it high ratings for support, noting that the straps stayed put without sliding down and that the band wasn't restrictive.
When we washed and dried this bra in the Textiles Lab, we reported noticeable shrinkage, so it's important to follow the brand's recommendations of handwashing the bra and laying it out to dry to keep it in tip-top shape.
| Band size | 32–44 |
| Cup size | AA–H (DDDDD) with half-sizes |
| Material | Nylon and spandex blend |
Pros
No underwire that digs in or pokes
Four-row hook-and-eye closures and adjustable straps for a better fit
Buttery soft fabric
Cons
I noticed the edge curls outward with extended use
Not all padded push-up bras have to be structured with an underwire. Take this wire-free style from Aerie's Sunnie collection. The bra has molded cups, a four-row hook-and-eye closure, and adjustable straps, so it's still supportive but doesn't have a wire that digs in.
TEST RESULTS: For the entirety of my college years and well into post-grad life, I exclusively shopped Aerie's Sunnie collection because the material is so buttery and smooth. This particular style has always been one of my favorites. It's rare to find a bra that's so comfortable you don't notice it's on, let alone a super comfortable push-up bra. And compared to any other wired style I've worn, this bra gives me the most noticeable lift and cleavage.
When we've evaluated other bras from the brand in the Textiles Lab, the wireless styles and bralettes have stood out in our assessments, and testers have given them high scores for comfort, appearance, and overall satisfaction.
I've laundered mine dozens of times and feel as though it holds its shape well overall. However, the edges of the cup start to curl out with extended use and washing, so the outline of the bra becomes more noticeable under clothes with time.
| Band size | 30–40 |
| Cup size | AA–DDD |
| Material | Recycled nylon and spandex blend |
Pros
Adds up to two cup sizes of volume
Plunge neckline looks invisible under low-cut tops
Silky smooth material doesn't cling to tops
Cons
Thinner straps and band can be uncomfortable
If you're searching for maximum lift and a total bombshell effect, look no further than this Victoria's Secret bra. This ultra-padded push-up bra adds up to two cup sizes of fullness to your chest for an extreme boost.
The silky, smooth material doesn't cling to your clothes, creating a more seamless look. Combined with the plunging neckline, it honestly looks pretty invisible under low-cut tops, despite having about an inch of push-up padding. The bra straps and band are also easy to camouflage because they're on the thinner side, but they can dig in if you have a larger chest.
TEST RESULTS: I and several other GH analysts who have said the bra lives up to its boosting claims, highly recommend it—but only if you really want a curvy, enhanced effect. One expert who has owned several models of the style shared, "I'm so impressed by the amount of lift I get from this bra," and added, "I was surprised by how supportive and comfortable it is."

How we test bras

We evaluate bras using several different standardized tests in the Textiles Lab and share samples with consumer testers who have a variety of different body types to gain well-rounded feedback. Here's what we consider:
Washability: We launder each bra repeatedly according to its care instructions and visually inspect each one to evaluate shrinkage or changes in appearance.

Stretch recovery: Bras are made with stretch materials to help you achieve the right fit—supportive but not too tight or uncomfortable. They need to maintain their shape after being stretched and used repeatedly to continue providing you with support. To ensure a bra doesn't lose its stretch, we first mark a section of the bra. Then we stretch the bra to a standard measurement and clamp it securely in place for two hours (pictured here). Next, we release the clamps, wait one minute, and measure the markings again to determine how well the bra returns to its original shape. We measure the bra a third time after one hour passes.
Wear tests: Consumer testers with various body types, cup, and band sizes try on the bras and wear them in their daily lives. We ask the testers to respond to surveys about their experiences and encourage them to rate a variety of factors like ease of putting on and taking off the bra, the overall fit, comfort, stay-in-place capabilities, visibility under clothes, and support. We also allow them to share open-ended comments about what they specifically like and dislike about each bra.
We have tested more than 200 different bras in recent years with more than 500 consumer testers who range in size from AA–H cups and 30–48 bands and are always working to include a more diverse panel of testers for better, more well-rounded results.
What to look for when shopping for a push-up bra

When you're shopping for a new push-up bra, here are a few things to consider:
✔️ Style: The style of bra you choose can impact the coverage and look of your bra under your clothes. Balconette bras have shallower cups, which show off more cleavage and create fullness at the top of your chest, while plunge bras are cut with narrower cups that push the breasts together and look great under a v-neck top. T-shirt push-up bras typically utilize demi- or full-coverage cups, making them a great option for everyday wear.
✔️ Padding: Some push-up bras are lightly padded for minimal lift, while others are heavily padded to provide a more extreme boost, comparable to additional cup sizes of fullness. Most push-up styles fall somewhere in the middle of the spectrum to create the cleavage you want from a push-up bra without feeling too unnatural.
While most push-up bras are designed with foam padding built into the cups, some styles feature removable pads that slide into small pockets inside the cups. You're able to keep them in for more oomph or pull them out for a lighter lift.
✔️ Fit: We recommend trying on a bra before buying, if possible, to ensure it fits properly. If your bra fits correctly, your breasts should fill the cups without overflowing (if they do, the cups are too small) or gaping (which means they're too large). The band should be level with your ribcage without riding up, and the gore (the material between the cups) should lie flat against your chest. Lastly, the straps should sit on your shoulders without sliding down or digging in.
