Summer is calling, and I’m ready to welcome the hot weather with some refreshments. Luckily, Starbucks is releasing its highly anticipated Blue Coconut Duo this week—and while I’m in New York and not on a tropical island, at least these drinks can bring a little vacation to my day.

Starbucks’ Iced Blue Coconut Matcha and the Blue Coconut Refresher will be available starting on June 16, 2026. From June 16 through July 7, Starbucks will donate 25 cents to Water.org’s Get Blue initiative per Blue Coconut beverage sold to help expand access to clean water.

The Good Housekeeping food team and I got an early tasting. Here’s what we thought!

Iced Blue Coconut Matcha

The Iced Blue Coconut Matcha uses blue spirulina to give the toasted coconut cold foam its blue hue, and mango flavoring adds a tropical note.

This drink is certainly pretty—the swirl of bright blue foam against the soft green matcha makes it perfect for Instagram. I was asked what the drink was multiple times while riding the elevator back to my office.

“It’s undeniably gorgeous,” says Susan Choung, Good Housekeeping’s senior food editor.

The toasted coconut cold foam is fun and almost dessert-like, with a flavor that reminds me of birthday cake. Choung, on the other hand, compared it to melted vanilla ice cream. While the foam is very sweet, you should stir the drink after your first sip, since the matcha beneath adds a more earthy, slightly bitter note.

“Once stirred together, the drink becomes much more cohesive,” Choung explains. “The creamy coconut softens the matcha's edges, creating a tropical, dessert-like drink that's far more balanced than it first appears.”

Overall, this is probably best for anyone who likes their matcha on the sweeter side.

Blue Coconut Refresher

The Blue Coconut Refresher is a crisp blend of coconut, strawberry, and açaí flavors. It’s handshaken with blue spirulina to give it an almost royal blue color, and can be customized with lemonade or coconut milk—we tried it with lemonade.

“The color is almost comically blue—in the best possible way,” says Choung.

This drink is bright, tropical, and genuinely refreshing. The coconut flavor comes through clearly, which I really liked, and the açaí adds a tangy edge that keeps it from tasting flat or overwhelmingly sugary at first.

“The lemonade makes the whole thing extra refreshing,” Choung adds. “Served ice-cold, it feels like sipping a melted blue raspberry slushie while floating in a tropical lagoon.“

It has that fruity, beachy vibe that feels especially right for a hot summer day. That said, even with the tartness from the açaí balancing things out, it still reads as a pretty sweet drink overall. So for me, it’s probably the kind of refresher that’s best in a smaller size or as an occasional treat.

Final thoughts

Both drinks are fun, summery additions to Starbucks’ menu, and each brings something a little different to the table depending on your mood. But if I had to pick a favorite, I’d go with the Iced Blue Coconut Matcha. If you’re in the mood for something bright and tropical, give the Refresher a try. If you want something a little bit more interesting and creamy, the matcha is the way to go.
