The United States Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) published an announcement on September 6 stating that Prime Line Distributors of Fort Lauderdale, FL, and Ferrarini USA, Inc. of Hoboken, NJ are recalling about 1,513 pounds of imported ready-to-eat (RTE) pork products.

The pork products may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes (Lm) bacteria. The recall was initiated after a product sample tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes during routine testing.

The Prime Line Distributors, Inc. products were shipped to food service and retail locations in Florida. The Ferrarini USA, Inc. products were shipped to distributors and food service locations in California, Florida, Idaho, Illinois, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, and Texas.

The FSIS classified the recall as Class I, the most serious recall classification.

Which pork products are included in the recall?

The specific products are imported RTE dry-cured pork jowl (“guanciale”) products that were produced at Est. 1937L Bome SRL in Italy on May 21, 2026, and then imported into the U.S. on various dates in July 2026.

Why is Listeria monocytogenes (Lm) dangerous?

According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), this bacterium causes an infection called listeriosis, which can be dangerous for older adults, people with weakened immune systems, pregnant women, and newborn babies. Listeriosis is the fourth leading cause of death from foodborne illness.

Some people may experience intestinal illness, which can cause symptoms such as diarrhea and vomiting, while others can develop invasive listeriosis, a more serious infection.

The CDC says listeriosis can also present as an invasive infection like sepsis, meningitis, or meningoencephalitis in older adults or people with compromised immune systems.

The FSIS announcement also states that listeriosis can cause fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, and convulsions.

The good news: there haven’t been any confirmed reports of illness linked to the recalled pork products to date.

What should I do if I think I’ve eaten a recalled pork product?

The FSIS has instructed food service and retail locations to throw away any products they have, which will hopefully lessen the overall risk to consumers. However, if you think you’ve eaten some of the recalled pork, monitor yourself for symptoms, and contact your doctor if you start to feel sick.
