Summer's the perfect time to start incorporating sleek flats into your warm-weather wardrobe (and as a fashion writer, I can assure you that they're trending right now). This season, there are tons of styles to choose from—but the Princess of Wales just set the bar high with one particular pair that goes perfectly with skirts, dresses, and even slacks.

Earlier this week, Kate Middleton visited Reggio Emilia, Italy—and during her trip, she wore slingbacks by British designer Camilla Elphick. The shoes feature a nude base with a black pointed toe tip and an embellished buckle detail around the ankle strap.

What really stands out is the barely-there square heel, which makes the shoe look polished, effortless, and of course, comfortable. It's the perfect option for busy days filled with office meetings followed by happy hour.

Kate paired the shoes with an elegant cream-colored pleated Jenni Kane skirt (you can find a similar piece on Amazon for just $36)—and she completed the look with relaxed pinstripe blazer.

The exact slingbacks she wore are currently unavailable, but we found endless affordable options that are super similar from brands like Sam Edleman and Quince. You can also opt for these square-toe Vivaia flats with a two-tone design and built-in footbed cushion.

Personally, I have a pair of French Sole slingbacks that are almost identical to the pair Kate wore. They have a small, 2.75-inch block heel, and I find them to be super comfortable for traipsing around New York City in (and I'm usually a certified high-heel hater).

The versatility of this shoe is truly endless, and they look just as polished when paired with your favorite jeans and a blazer, a la Kate.
