There’s no question that Y2K fashion is having a major resurgence. When I walk down a busy New York City street nowadays, I’m met with jelly sandals, halter tops, and silky, summery slip dresses. As a ‘90s kid myself whose closet was once packed with all of the above (plus studded belts and accessories galore), I’m thrilled about the comeback.

By the looks of it, Dakota Johnson might be, too. The Materialists actress was recently seen wearing studded leather shoulder bag while seemingly en route to Taylor Swift’s wedding on July 3, and it’s giving early-2000s nostalgia in the chicest way possible. The actress paired her clutch with a sheer, black halter-top dress from the Valentino Pre-Fall 2026 collection—and I can imagine a breezy dress like this would be perfect for a casual mid-summer dinner al fresco, or even a night at your favorite cocktail lounge.

TBH, I’d love to add Dakota’s purse to my cart—but it looks like the exact bag is a gorgeous Valentino designer clutch that’s well out of my budget (sigh). Still, I found some different options that are on the affordable side, in case you’re also in search of a studded shoulder bag with a similar vibe. One of them’s even half off!

The fierce yet feminine aesthetic isn’t new to Dakota’s usual style. Back in January, she attended the Valentino Haute Couture Week and wore studded Valentino heels that give a similar vibe as the clutch she wore this past weekend. (Again, I’m adding them to my maybe-I’ll-hit-the-lottery-one-day wish list.)

Also, earlier this spring, she paired a breezy white DEON blouse with a pair of ‘90s-cut jeans—another outfit that’s simple to recreate with the right finds.
