The second recall in one week of a lithium-ion battery is a reminder that, for all the power these batteries pack in their small housings, they’re not without their risks.
Earlier in the week, our safety experts in the Good Housekeeping Home Improvement & Outdoor Lab reported on the recall of a range of battery-powered products from Kobalt, the Lowe’s-exclusive tool brand.
And today, the culprit is the Flaunt MagSafe Battery Charger, a portable power bank for phones, earbuds, and other personal electronics.
The lithium-ion battery that powers the Flaunt charger can overheat and ignite, posing a risk of serious injury or death from fire and burn hazards, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). Flaunt has received five reports of a power bank overheating and catching fire, including one report of a burn to a consumer’s hand, one report of a burn to a consumer’s arm, and four reports of minor property damage.
Impacted products
The chargers were sold online at flauntcases.com from May 2024 through April 2025 for about $65. Look for the word “FLAUNT” engraved on the front right side of the power bank as well as the words “FLAUNT” and “Model: E33A” on the back label.
What to do if you have one of the recalled power banks
If it turns out that you do have a recalled charger, stop using the device immediately and register it at the Flaunt website so that you can receive a full refund. You’ll also get instructions from the brand on how to safely dispose of the recalled product.
