The Rookie got renewed for season 9, which airs in 2027 on ABC.
Star Nathan Fillion shared what he thinks is the key to the show’s success.
Fans sided with him after learning his thoughts.
The Rookie is returning for season 9 on ABC, and Nathan Fillion has a theory about why it continues to resonate.
The show, which follows a group of cops working at the fictional LAPD Mid-Wilshire station, has been a primetime staple for the last decade.
When Nathan appeared on Watch What Happens Live on May 14, he spilled his thoughts on what has made the show so successful as it heads into another installment in 2027.
“By the way, congratulations on The Rookie, which has become this huge hit,” host Andy Cohen told him in a clip posted on TikTok. “It’s huge with the younger folk.”
“Yeah, you know what? It’s the TikToks!” Nathan replied. “We kind of put it up there in digestible bits, and I tell them, ‘If you like these TikToks, it’s the same as a TikTok but longer and horizontal.’”
A few fans agreed in the comments.
“That’s why I started watching it. True story,” one person wrote in the comments. “Can confirm I found the rookie through TikTok lol,” another shared. “Started watching this with my son, who saw it on TikTok,” a different viewer added.
Nathan isn’t the only Rookie cast member with this thought. Eric Winter, who has more than 7 million followers on TikTok, also noted that TikTok has brought the procedural drama significant success.
Eric’s most popular TikTok features fellow cast members Melissa O’Neil, Richard T. Jones and Lisseth Chavez and has over 246 million views.
We can see why people love this show!
