Alexis Bledel is speaking out about Gilmore Girls.

It’s been almost three decades since the show debuted on The WB in October 2000. Since then, Gilmore Girls has developed a cult following, and people still watch and stream it online.

The New York Times named the show one of the 100 Best TV Shows of the 21st Century on September 21—and the outlet spoke to Alexis, who played Rory Gilmore. In an Instagram video, she shared that she loves how viewers accepted her and her fellow cast, like Lauren Graham, Scott Patterson, and Kelly Bishop, as they settled into their characters.

“I started working on Gilmore Girls when I was 18, so I’m very grateful for it,” she said in the clip. “I appreciate fans sticking with us as we evolved and grew within our roles.”

Alexis also reflected on why people still love Gilmore Girls after so many years—and according to her, it’s not just one particular thing that draws viewers in.

“There are so many timeless elements to this show as well,” she added. “The fast-paced dialogue, which is reminiscent of ‘30s and ‘40s classic films. Teen angst is also timeless. Single mom life, romantic scenes, multigenerational family drama. I think that’s what keeps people coming back.”

Alexis’ rare comments come weeks after fans learned that HBO was developing a documentary film about Gilmore Girls. At the time of the announcement, Lauren went on Instagram to voice her thoughts.

“Oh hey, hi… we’re making a documentary,” she wrote in the caption on August 5.

Now we’re even more excited!
