‘When Calls the Heart’ Fans, You’re Not Ready for This Season 14 Casting Announcement

As viewers gear up for new episodes to air on Hallmark, the network dropped an exciting announcement about a new person coming to Hope Valley. According to a September 21 article from People, actress Marilu Henner is joining the cast of When Calls the Heart season 14. She will play Nathan Grant’s (Kevin McGarry) mother, Bernice “Birdie” Grant.

“I’ve been a proud member of the Hallmark family for many years, and now I’m even more thrilled to be part of its crown jewel, When Calls the Heart!” she told the outlet in an exclusive statement. “This role is particularly special to me, because I get to play Nathan’s mother, the fabulous and feisty Birdie! And I’m very lucky that Elizabeth [Thornton, played by Erin Krakow] is going to be my daughter-in-law!”

When the news of Marilu’s casting landed on Instagram, fans were intrigued.

“She is fantastic! So excited to see her join!” one person cheered in the comments. “So excited to meet Mama Grant!!” another exclaimed. “Love her! Can't wait for this season,” a different follower added.

Marilu has been part of the Hallmark family for quite some time, appearing in films like A Kiss Before Christmas, A Kismet Christmas, and plenty more. She also portrayed Aida Teagarden in the Aurora Teagarden Mysteries movie franchise.

Hallmark describes Birdie as “a free spirit” who comes to Hope Valley “and takes an instant liking to Elizabeth.” Also someone who loves to travel, Birdie is “optimistic and resourceful” and “makes the best out of a situation in times of need, always with heart and humor.”

What’s more, Marilu told People that she’s already filming with the WCTH crew. “The whole cast is talented and welcoming,” she added. “They truly are a family. I want to move to Hope Valley!”
