Victoria Beckham has just had her most talked-about hair makeover in years, so it’s understandable she wants to share her thoughts on the matter. Her new lighter hair colour has received almost as much commentary as the Princess of Wales’ brief flirtation with blonde, and now Posh herself has been unable to resist joining the conversation.
Her long-term hairdresser Ken Paves shared his personal round-up of what’s been a hugely successful week for Victoria, including the launch of her GAP collection and a celebration of her titular fashion and beauty empire at the TIME100 Summit in New York.
‘That’s a wrap. VB NYC. The week, edited.’ Ken wrote, sharing an Instagram carousel of Brand Beckham’s latest highlights – the hair variety being top of the list.
Responding to a sweet snap of the stylist putting the final touches to her new style, Victoria commented, ‘What a week!!!! Love my new hair colour!!!! Kisses xxxxxxxx u r amazing x’.
Her praise is fully deserved according to the man behind another of her iconic hairstyles. Celebrity hairdresser Jason Collier, founder of Studio23 and creator of Victoria’s famous wavy bob, tells GH, ‘In classic VB style, her new look feels modern, confident and very considered.'
‘It feels incredibly classy, because it embraces softness rather than obvious colour work. There’s no hard regrowth line, no block colour, no overly cool or brassy extremes,’ says Jason. ‘It has that ‘quiet luxury’ quality we’re seeing across beauty, where the hair looks polished and expensive, but never overdone.’
What really brings her colour to life is what Jason calls a ‘sunlit effect’ that illuminates her skin as much as her hair. ‘Her latest hair refresh builds on the honeyed, balayage tones she’s been favouring in recent years, but with lighter, brighter pieces through the mid-lengths and ends to create a more elongated, sunlit effect.’
‘What makes her colour so flattering is the dimension,’ he adds. ‘Rather than one flat blonde tone, you’ve got a blend of deeper roots, soft golden ribbons and lighter face-framing pieces, which creates movement and naturally brightens the complexion.’
‘The lighter pieces around the face are particularly clever, as they lift and soften the features, while the longer lengths add to that effortless, elegant feel,’ he adds. ‘It’s glamorous, but understated, which is often where hair looks most luxurious.’
Jason also gives a shout-out to the blurred-out softness at the root, an element makes the look truly Posh. ‘This is likely achieved through a root smudge or shadowing technique, which melts seamlessly into those warmer blonde tones,’ he tells us. ‘That’s what gives the colour its expensive, lived-in finish. It’s very refined, very intentional.’
We’d expect nothing else from Victoria Beckham.
