Legendary makeup artist Val Garland has just shared her sweep of supermarket chic, listing the best ‘holiday glow’ bronzers to pop in your trolley – and with prices starting from just £4 it’s around than the cost of a lunchtime meal deal.
Val, who includes icons like Helen Mirren and Kate Moss on her makeup resume, has given her favourite finds on a recent trawl of Sainsburys. It’s a fitting task for the woman known and loved for her work on BBC’s Glow Up, and she’s come up with two absolute gems to flatter older skin – her no1 beauty speciality.
‘Today I want to talk about getting the glow, on bronzing on mature skin,’ Val says in a new Instagram post. ‘I was in my local supermarket the other week, and these two products caught my eye.’
First, she sings the praises of Rimmel Multitasker Supercharged Glow, which comes in at a very reasonable £10 at Sainsburys. It’s a handbag-sized tube, with a handy wand to swipe the product on quickly and precisely. ‘This is great for when you go on holiday, it just blends right in, and you get a really good glow,’ Val says, sharing the no tidemarks texture.

Her second pick is even more of a bargain, and comes from Collection, a budget brand that’s GH think is always worth a look. Val agrees, saying, ‘This little baby is Collection’s Bronze Liquid, more of a matte bronze.’ A steal at £4 at Sainsburys.

It’s particularly excellent if you don’t want any trace of sparkle or sheen, just a glow that could very conceivably have come from a sunny getaway. ‘This is if you don't want any big reflect, you just want [your bronzer] to feel like you've just come off of a holiday,’ says Val.
‘It really just buffs into the skin. Very easy to use.’ And at that price, very easy to add to the big shop without any second thoughts.
To complete the look, Val advises keeping the rest of your makeup pared back (this is summer, after all, and going for the only finishing touch you need. ‘All you need is a banging mascara. I've gone to the OG, Maybelline. This is Lash Sensation, does what it says on the tin.’
