It’s no secret that jean shopping can be a rather gruelling task. We’ve all been there: whether it’s inconsistent sizing that changes depending on the store, or the stress of a cramped changing room with unflattering fluorescent lighting.
But, in a shocking turn of events (yes, it really is that dramatic), I’ve miraculously found a pair that has, for once, made the overstimulating search less difficult. Even better - they’re from the high street.
M&S’s high-waisted pleated palazzo jeans are the denim style I’ve been searching for all along, and they fit so well that they’ve restored my faith in jean shopping. They hugged me in all the right places without feeling restrictive, and with plenty of leg-length options - from extra short to extra long - I was especially happy to find a pair of jeans that wouldn’t annoyingly drag on the floor.
The pair I chose came in short/petite, which was long enough to cover the top of my beloved loafers yet short enough to avoid trailing. A welcome feature, especially if (like me) you opt for the ecru style - though the medium indigo option is just as good, and ideal if you prefer more traditional wardrobe staples.
But it’s not just the generous size range that made shopping for these jeans so easy. Their unique design is especially flattering on a variety of shapes and sizes, thanks to the loose, easy-fitting denim cut in a wide-leg, high-waisted silhouette.
The pleated detailing adds a tailored touch, creating an airy fit with plenty of movement and a dynamic, elevated feel. It’s no wonder that when I spotted them in my local M&S, they immediately caught my eye.
Styling these jeans couldn’t be easier, as they pair with almost every capsule wardrobe piece. I tried them with a cinched, pinstripe long-sleeve top that felt like a clever hybrid of a blazer and a waistcoat. As for shoes, my loafers worked perfectly, adding a slightly boyish charm. Trainers would work just as well, offering a sporty, casual edge that still feels polished, think minimalist styles like Adidas Sambas.
