Nothing beats the feeling of swapping your go-to jeans for a breezy, comfortable pair of linen trousers, and come spring, they become the hardest-working staple in my wardrobe. My trusty black pair have served me well over the years, but on a recent visit to Uniqlo, I couldn’t help but find myself drawn to the eye catching selection of linen in spring shades.

The sheer range is impressive, with a generous 9 colours to choose from. Joyful hues of baby pink, soft aqua and azure blue sit alongside classic neutrals, from olive green to polished beige - great if you like something slightly more pared back.

So - in the name of journalism - the GH fashion team decided to pile them high, and head straight to the changing rooms.

Uniqlo call these their ‘Easy Trousers’, and it’s clear why. They’re casual and comfortable, yet chic enough for everyday wear. A handy drawstring waist ensures a flexible, flattering fit, while a breezy wide leg delivers supreme comfort. And, of course, they come with practical pockets - great for errand runs and the like.

Personally, I found myself particularly drawn to the pretty pastels, with the pink and aqua iterations quickly becoming instant favourites. As someone who falls into the petite category (I'm 5'3) trousers can often be a gamble. However, I’m pleased to report the regular length fit like a dream - though if you’re vertically challenged, free alteration is available.

Zara was also a fan of the aqua shade

Paired with my go-to combination of a white tee and dark denim jacket, the playful shades bring an instant lift. I found they looked especially pretty with my white ballet flats, but they’d work just as well with a sneakerina or simple sandals come summer.

Junior Fashion Editor Emma Richardson couldn’t resist the charm of the Uniqlo trousers either, and she opted for a pop of azure blue, destined for a sunny holiday (read: Greece). She was also a fan of the olive green shade, too.

'Typically I tend to go for pared back colours, which is probably why I felt obligated to try on the muted olive green shade. But, what I wasn't expecting to do was feel it necessary to try on the bold blue version, featuring a clever contrasting drawstring waistband in crisp white. The juxtaposition added a touch of freshness to an otherwise regular pair of linen trousers,' she says.

Uniqlo paves the way for great, affordable fashion — and these linen trousers are no exception. Thankfully for your bank account, they’ll only set you back a mere £19.90.

I’ll take two…or three.
