This bank holiday is nothing short of exciting. Why? Well, a three day weekend and a four-day week instantly come to mind, but the cherry on top is that temperatures are also set to reach 30 degrees. I might be getting ahead of myself (we’ve yet to welcome June), but I’m happy to argue that this truly marks the start of summer.
So, what key piece do you need for the season ahead? You might automatically assume that a swishy dress should sit at the top of your shopping list, or perhaps even a flattering cotton midi skirt, but really, the co-0rd is the true saviour of warm weather dressing.
Naturally, I knew my first port of call should be Next: the high street hero that has proven time and time again that it knows a thing or two about a chic co-ord. The proof? It lies in a practical yet stylish striped two piece.
Crafted from linen and cotton, the set is perfect for balmy weather when lightweight, breathable fabrics are essential. Featuring a soft mint and ivory stripe motif, the set is one of the easiest staples you could introduce to your wardrobe. Better still, each piece can be styled separately with other pared back linen essentials, think classic beige flax trousers.
Designed with comfort in mind, the shorts feature an elasticated waistband for easy wear. Meanwhile, the shirt is cut in a loose, free flowing silhouette, making it a genius choice for sticky commutes and balmy days out alike. I know for certain that the last thing I need when the sun is blazing well into next week is to feel restricted by my clothes.
Of course, this two piece is also a brilliant addition to any holiday suitcase, working just as well as a polished daytime look as it does a beach cover up. Simply wear it over your favourite swimsuit or flattering bikini, and finish with a pair of sandals.
