If you’re on a budget but have luxury taste, this is your week. Zara has partnered with Caramel London, a luxury British brand who primarily make adorably stylish high-quality clothes in natural fibres for the children of the super-rich.
They also, and this is where it gets a bit exciting, make a small range of women’s clothes, and the new Zara range includes both.
Released on Wednesday, the range includes cute-as-a-button cotton poplin dresses, tulip dotted T-shirts, bow necklace and slip on leather pumps for little girls, a button up jacket, T-shirts, cargo trousers and sneakers for little boys, up to age 10.
Out of curiosity I took a look to see what it had on offer for women, and the first thing that caught my eye is a basic but brilliant round-neck summer knit that comes in both off white and khaki. On closer inspection, this knit is in 100% flax linen, and costs £49.99.
I’ve never seen a 100% linen jumper at a price this affordable, ever, and it reminded me that sometimes Zara create pieces (especially in collaborations) that they sell for less than their actual worth.
This is such a piece, and in my opinion is worth more than every single penny of its price, and perhaps more amazingly, it's still fully stocked in sizes from small to large.
You can layer this easily over T-shirts, and partner it with loose linen trousers, a midi skirt, or slung on over a tummy control swimsuit or bikini when a chill comes into the air on a hot day.
I can’t leave this piece without also recommending the Caramel London x Zara white 100% linen trousers, their silk and linen vest tops, leather Mary-Jane shoes in both red and brown, and finally the pretty Peter Pan collar dress.
If you’re someone bemoaning the lack of quality affordable items in natural fibres on the high street, and you have a gap in your wardrobe for a long-lasting linen knit for summer, or indeed any of the other long-lasting pieces here, you can’t do better than these for the price.
