While I do enjoy and appreciate modern fashion trends, from curved barrel leg jeans to leather flip flops, there's always a space reserved in my wardrobe for the timeless classics. Think polka dots, a chic jacket in either black or brown leather, and a pair of leather loafers.
Then there's the skirt: a timeless staple that has come in a plethora of swishy forms over the years, from pleated styles to bias cut satin designs. Yet, there's one style we hardly ever give enough credit to, and that's the circle skirt: a swishy silhouette that emerged in the '50s and has since had a modern makeover, thanks to M&S.
Designed in a citrus yellow hue that naturally caught my eye, M&S's circle skirt gives the retro style an upgrade suited to the fashion cycles of 2026. Think a bold bright shade, sheer fabrics instead of heavier materials such as cotton, and a comfortable elasticated waistband for easy wear when the heat reaches its peak. It's also available in petite and plus sizes, which means there's a version of this circle skirt for everyone.
Of course, it doesn't stray too far from its vintage roots. Much like the original circle skirts by the likes of Christian Dior, M&S's maxi comes in an A line silhouette, which is great news if you're looking for something that will look endlessly flattering.
For summer, wear it with an off the shoulder white top or a cropped crisp shirt - JW Anderson does a great version of the latter for Uniqlo, that is somehow still in stock. For footwear, choose according to the weather: if you're out when summer showers begin to pour, pair it with some Onitsuka Tigers. Then, when the warm weather returns, opt for a pair of leather look toe-post sandals for a chic, Parisian inspired outfit.
