Every summer seems to arrive with a colour that quickly dominates. Last year it was butter yellow (though the shade has made yet another comeback for SS26). Before that, bright reds had their moment. This season however, fashion’s colour mood feels noticeably cooler, with shades of blue appearing everywhere from the high street to the supermarket, specifically powder blue.
Of course Sainsbury’s Tu range appears to have got the memo. Its latest collection includes three striped powder blue pieces that tap neatly into the trend, all without a hefty price tag.
The trio, a swishy midi skirt, a chic shell top and a pair of wide leg trousers, does a brilliant job of blending nostalgia with modernity. Think old school Riviera meets the cool girl look of 2026. Softer than stark white, less predictable than black, and a refreshing alternative to earthy neutrals, each piece delivers summer impact without relying on bold colour.
Designed in clean silhouettes and uncomplicated shapes (the A line skirt leading the way), the striped motif is given space to do the talking. Styling then becomes instinctive: retro trainers for daytime city wandering abroad, with the best accessory of them all: SPF.
For evenings the set shifts easily. Pair the shell top with the trousers or skirt and switch into toe post heels, a chic update on the classic flip flop that resurfaces every warm weather season.
