Unless you've been blissfully unaware, you'll know that jersey fabric is one of the best choices when it comes to dressing for the heat. Thanks to its looped knit construction, it's brilliant at promoting airflow and breathability, two non-negotiables when temperatures climb to the current unbearable highs. At the time of writing, I'm sitting in front of two fans in a rather sad attempt to regulate my body temperature.

So, when this fabric is paired with a loose, flowing silhouette, you know you've nailed summer dressing. The result is something airy, highly sweat-wicking and easy to throw on and go. Personally, I'm tired of rummaging through my wardrobe on hot mornings when I know the easiest solution is a breezy maxi dress.

I was pleasantly surprised, then, when I came across a brilliant maxi dress from Next while browsing its new-in section.

The dress in question is Next's Rust Textured Jersey V-Neck Dress, and it's exactly the sort of staple I've been looking for now that getting dressed has started to feel like a chore in this weather. It has the effortless, throw on appeal I'm looking for, and neatly taps into the internet's 'housedress' trend – but don't let the name fool you. Rather than looking like something you'd only wear indoors, the bold rust print and floaty silhouette make it feel far more polished, whether you're running errands or heading out for lunch.

One thing I'm especially loving? How little styling the frock actually needs. Add a pair of minimalist sandals and a woven tote and you're done, or throw on some chunky jewellery if you want to dress it up a touch.
