By now, I realise my childhood dreams of becoming a prima ballerina are long behind me. Still, I live vicariously through my ever growing collection of ballet flats, and one very flouncy tulle skirt. So, when I spotted the prettiest pointelle cardigan while scrolling through Next's new-in section, I knew it belonged in my wardrobe.
Think off-duty ballerina: delicate, elevated and, (as we fast approach the end of summer), cosy. That’s the formula behind this cardigan. It’s easy to shrug on, but chic enough to be the main focal point the outfit.
With Next's version, it's all in the details. Designed with a flattering V-neckline for a polished elongating touch, as well as soft scalloped edging for a delicate finish, the cardigan is guaranteed to suit everyone. It's considered design also draws the eye to the dainty pearl buttons, which, in my opinion, are a really brilliant touch.
Together, these thoughtful details make the cardigan look far more expensive than its £36 price tag.
The cardigan comes in two equally chic shades. The ecru style keeps things understated, while the dark pink offers a contrast against the shiny pearl buttons.
While there are still plenty of sunny days ahead, this cardigan is light enough to wear now, with its pointelle design keeping things airy and breathable. When the temperature drops or your office air conditioning is in full force, it'll help keep the chill at bay, too.
Right now, it would soften a tailored pair of boyish Bermuda shorts, or look especially elegant with a silky slip skirt. Come autumn, I'll be pairing it with my favourite jeans - once it's acceptable to bring back into my day to day rotation. Of course, I'll be finishing every look with a pair of ballet flats.
En pointe!
