It would be an understatement to say that I am excited for the mercury to drop - I don't know about you, but I've now tired of the heatwave temperatures we've been forced to withstand over the last few weeks and months. I'm certainly not adept at dealing with 35-degree temperatures, no matter how many linen trousers and airy cotton skirts I have lining my wardrobe.

So, you can imagine how pleased I am that it's officially time to start buying for the transitional season - the in-between period of summer and autumn - and my first port of call has to be a cardigan. Lightweight cardigans, to be exact, because we're not in chunky-knit territory just yet. And, during a recent evening of internet sleuthing, I found an especially unique style from Next.

What makes it unique? The fact that it's entirely made from lace, a style I haven't seen before, and now wonder how I ever made an outfit look chic without it. Covered in bold floral lace detailing reminiscent of vintage table linens and elegant window coverings, the piece is especially eye-catching and comes with dainty button detailing for an extra dose of feminine charm.

While it may be long sleeved, the cardigan is still suitable for warmer weather thanks to lace's open weave design, which is great for letting air circulate freely over the skin. Its design might lead you to believe that it's sheer, but thankfully, an additional layer of lace offers a little extra coverage. You could also wear a vest top underneath if that makes you feel more comfortable.

Not only is it available in a soft ecru (which is very quickly selling out), but it also comes in a delicious chocolate brown. There's every reason to add this piece to your wardrobe this transitional season.
