Admit it, we all have those days when we wish we could get away with wearing joggers to the office. There's nothing worse than having to sit around in a pair of tight-fitting denim jeans all day.
So, when I spotted Next's new corduroy trousers, they went straight into my basket. Smart and polished but every bit as comfortable as your favourite loungewear, they're a sweet spot when it comes to style.
Of course, it's no secret that corduroy trousers are having a serious moment this season, with the staple appearing across the A/W 26 runways, from Loewe to Isabel Marant. No surprise then that the high street has jumped on to the trend – and I've seen affordable versions here, there and everywhere.
Thanks to its cosy texture, clothing crafted from the soft material will keep you warm when the temperatures start to drop. But it's not just practical – its tactile finish instantly elevates any outfit, adding texture and a stylish focal point to your look.
Next takes it a step further with their barrel-leg soft cord trousers. At first glance, you might just pass them off as a really chic staple, thanks to their curved silhouette and neat tapering. But if you look a little closer, you'll quickly realise that they're essentially joggers in disguise. The elasticated waistband is the key giveaway, offering plenty of stretch and a comfortable fit.
Available in two stylish shades, choosing between them is no easy decision (and, if I'm being honest, both are in my basket right now). Chocolate brown is always a good idea – it pairs endlessly well with other seasonal shades such as burgundy – but also creates a brilliant contrast with unexpected shades like baby blue. Meanwhile, the ecru option offers a very welcome lift to autumn's darker palette.
To lean into full comfort (with polish), try pairing the trousers with a cosy mohair knit and chic sneakerinas. Equally, it would work with your usual office favourites: think a great blouse and suede loafers.
