Once autumn settles in, I get a serious itch to update my wardrobe. While I certainly have enough clothes to see me through the season, I do like to keep on top of the trends, and there are plenty of places brimming with pieces to choose from, whatever your budget. For me, though, it's all about investing in staples that will last for seasons to come and stay relevant, even when the autumn trend cycle seems never ending.
My favourite place to look for these pieces is John Lewis, which shouldn't come as a surprise considering there's always a stellar selection whenever it updates its new in section.
For October, there's a plethora of stylish seasonal pieces that will look good wind, rain or shine, because it's one of those whiplash months where getting dressed for the day should be considered an Olympic sport.
But if you scroll through the John Lewis new-in section, you'll find yourself spoilt for choice. Think knitwear galore, chic skirts (that prove the swishy staple isn't just reserved for the summer months) and plenty of pieces in the colours of the season, from maroon to khaki and newcomer chartreuse.
And if you're looking for something that will update any autumn outfit formula - especially if you'd rather keep wearing the pieces you come back to year after year - there are also plenty of bags, shoes and accessories you'll want to wear on repeat.
