One thing about me? I’m a firm believer that the best basics that are anything but boring. Don’t get me wrong, I love an easy to wear staple, but I also love subtle details that make an outfit stand out. Case in point: Next’s cosy new jumper, complete with a sailor collar that gives a classic knit a touch more personality.
From the front, it looks like a much-loved scarf jumper, a style thats quickly become a seasonal staple. But turn around, and you’ll find a square sailor collar adding an unexpected (but, incredibly chic) twist.
Small, considered details like this do all the hard work with you when it comes to styling. The sailor collar is subtle enough to feel wearable, but noticeable enough to make a statement, and it'll add a charming touch to any outfit.
When it comes to styling, it doesn’t really get easier than a jumper and jeans. And when you throw this jumper into the mix, and it gives the age old outfit formula a polished upgrade.
While the collar might be what initially caught my eye, there’s plenty more to love about this knit. First, there’s the silhouette. Cut in a boxy, cropped shape, it feels effortless, while short, floaty sleeves give it a caped feel.
It also makes for a brilliant layering piece. I’ll be taking notes from Next’s clever styling team, who’ve shown just how chic it looks with a striped shirt nestled underneath.
One thing I love about Next is when you find a brilliant piece, like this, there are usually a few shades to choose from. And I’ll admit, this one is a tough choice: it comes in three on-season hues. Navy and chocolate brown continue to be firm favourites at this time of year, and are really easy to style. Though, personally, I’m eyeing up the olive green, which would add a welcome pop of colour to any autumn wardrobe.
