This comfortable jean style is everywhere right now and it comes with a subtle jogger twist

Your day-to-day wardrobe just got a serious upgrade

The versatility of the humble denim jean is unmatched. With a carousel of cuts and colours to choose from, each style uniquely blends seamlessly into every wardrobe rotation. But, despite how multi-faceted the staple is, it doesn’t change the fact that jeans – no matter the silhouette – are typically constructed from unforgiving, rigid denim. Like many, I never thought I would be able to find an exceptionally comfortable pair: until fashion invented a jogger jean hybrid.

Designed with comfort in mind, the jogger jean boasts one defining (and simply genius) detail, and that’s a drawstring waistband. Easy to wear, the tie waist offers a host of benefits, from practical customisation – you can adjust the jean perfectly to your shape – to a level of comfort that the usual denim staples lining the high street rarely provide. They’re so brilliant, in fact, that I predict the pairs we’ve selected in this edit are guaranteed to sell out, and fast.

Sustainable brand Baukjen stocks an excellent pair in a mid-indigo wash, complete with a contrasting drawstring waist band in soft ecru. Considerably designed, the jeans are made with soft and drapey Tencel fabric and feature double seam detailing on both legs for a structured and cosy touch. Similarly, Anthropologie’s exclusive brand Pilcro stocks a similar pair, however there is one key difference, as they come in a flared silhouette reminiscent of 70s and 80s fashion.

If you didn’t think the drawstring jean could get any comfier, you’ll be pleasantly surprised. Some versions come with an elasticated waistband for a laid back jogger effect; COS stocks an excellent pair in washed black (and washed blue and ecru) while M&S stocks a RO&ZO pair in teal green. Pair either with a waistcoat, cardigans and black leather loafers for a sophisticated touch, or opt for cosy mohair jumpers and sturdy boots for a smart, weather-ready finish.

Alternatively, if you’re looking for something with a trendy touch, we’ve included that, too. Mint Velvet has a stylish pair that feature a sporty side stripe inspired by a certain athleisure brand, and comes in a range of sizes (6-16). It is available in leg lengths short, regular and long.
