Hobbs has perhaps become best known for occasionwear in recent years. But, growing up, I used to go there for fabulous tailored jackets that felt quite different to anything else on the high street, and its shoe collection that blended comfort with style. In fact, the brand started life in 1981 as a small shoe label with a shop in Hampstead, north London, before expanding into contemporary tailoring.

And this season, you can see Hobbs' DNA woven throughout its autumn/winter collection, which is full of beautiful tailored jackets and coats, alongside buttery-soft boots, heritage tweeds and checks, and cosy knitwear.

The range heroes outerwear, in particular, with its 'A good coat is everything' campaign. ‘A coat isn’t an accessory to the outfit,’ the retailer explains. ‘For most of the season, it is the outfit. The first thing anyone sees...It’s the item that’s worn most and relied on the longest. Armour for whatever the day throws at you.’ And with weather forecasters predicting a stormy winter, it's probably going to throw a lot.

So, our roundup of the most stylish pieces to shop at Hobbs this autumn begins with that all-important coat.
