If you thought port was just for Christmas, served in dusty decanters, and sipped by your nan, think again. Taylor’s – one of Portugal’s oldest port houses – is turning that stereotype firmly on its head, with this chocolate shot glasses pack.
Perfect as a post-roast treat, the pack contains eight chocolate shot cups, and a half bottle of Taylor’s LBV (which scored a solid 85/100 in our recent taste test). Simply fill, sip and eat – be warned, it can get a bit messy!
Port and chocolate is one of those pairings everyone knows works, yet is rarely enjoyed outside of the Christmas period. Until now that is. Here, the rich, slightly bitter 58% dark chocolate melts into the velvety, fortified wine, making us wonder why we hadn’t thought of this combo sooner.
In fact, if you’re after a no-faff way to round off your meal, why not replace dessert with it entirely? I bought a bottle out after a recent Sunday roast with friends to squeals of delight, plenty of refills and more spillages then I care to mention.
With port and chocolate being such a key pairing, Easter is the natural time to treat yourself, or your host, to a bottle. Priced at £20 (and currently 15% off!), it’s a seasonal sugar high we can get on board with, and a sophisticated swap for a traditional chocolate egg. Who said Easter was just for kids?
So, whether serving after the Sunday roast, or giving as an alternative Easter gift, we’re confident it will be well received. It’s certainly a conversation starter…
