If there's one thing we know about Winnie the Pooh, it's that the bear takes his honey very seriously. So perhaps we shouldn't be surprised that his 100th birthday celebrations involve a towering, £250 honey-flavoured cake. Yes, really.
To mark Winnie the Pooh's 100th anniversary, an absolutely enormous multi-layered cake is arriving at Fortnum & Mason – and it looks like something Bruce Bogtrotter might have encountered in Matilda.
Thankfully, there's no Miss Trunchbull forcing you to finish this one. In fact, you can order a single slice for £25.
The cake itself is called the Hunny Caramel Bertha and comes from Get Baked, the viral bakery known for creating its legendary Bertha Cakes.
For this special Winnie the Pooh version, layers of brown sugar sponge are combined with Fortnum & Mason honey caramel and caramelised white chocolate ganache, along with Fortnum's very own honey. It makes a standard Victoria sponge look positively restrained.
Just look at the size of it.
What to read next
The whole cake costs an eye-watering £250, but unless you're planning a particularly lavish trip to the Hundred Acre Wood, we'd be heading straight for £25 slice instead.
You'll need to make an actual trip to Fortnum & Mason's Piccadilly store to get one, though (we can't imagine this cake travels well to be fair). Slices will be sold there exclusively from 21 August, while anyone brave enough to take on the entire £250 cake can also order one online for collection in store.
If you're keen to get your hands on a slice, we'd head there asap. When Get Baked previously popped up at Fortnum's, the queues for its famous Bertha cake stretched around the block.
And if honey isn't your thing, the original Bertha will also be making an appearance, costing £20 a slice, alongside Get Baked's much more affordable Cinnamon Cookies (£3.50) and Double Chocolate Brownies (£6).
The Hunny Caramel Bertha is only available for a limited time, so if you fancy getting in on the birthday celebrations, now you know where to find it. And Pooh, we’re with you – when it comes to birthday cake, more is always more. Just make sure you come hungry.
