The Decanter World Wine Awards 2026 (DWWA) results are in and there are some seriously impressive supermarket buys among this year’s winners.

Now in its 23rd year, DWWA is widely regarded as the world’s largest wine competition, with more than 250 judges blind-tasting almost 17,000 wines over five days.

In other words, if you spot a Decanter medal on a bottle, there’s a good chance it’s worth adding to your trolley – handy if you’ve ever found yourself staring blankly at the wine aisle, wondering where to start (we’ve all been there).

The awards are split into several tiers, with the coveted Best in Show wines sitting at the top, followed by Platinum and Gold medals (all scoring 95 points or more), then Silver and Bronze.

But it was the Top Value Gold category that really caught our attention. These medals are awarded to standout wines priced at £15 or less at the time of judging, proving you don’t need to spend a fortune on a brilliant bottle.

To save you trawling through pages of results, we’ve rounded up the supermarket wines worth making a beeline for – including one Gold medal winner from Asda that costs just £4.70. Yes, really.

Medal: Gold, 95 points

If you thought award-winning fizz had to come with a hefty price tag, think again. This supermarket bottle picked up a Gold medal, scoring an impressive 95 points. And the best bit? A bottle will set you back just £4.70.

Made with 100% moscato grapes, Asti is an Italian sparkling wine known for its notes of honeysuckle, orange blossom and peach. At just 7% ABV, it’s a great choice for brunches or daytime drinking when you fancy something a little lighter.

Sweet and fizzy, it’s fantastic with desserts and sweet treats (we’d absolutely open a bottle with a stack of pancakes or a pavlova). It’s also surprisingly good with spicy food, having a cooling effect on fiery dishes.

Alternatively, if you’re looking for a crowd-pleasing fizz for toasting, celebrating and buying in bulk, this is it. In fact, we’d argue it’s worth throwing a party for, even if you don’t have one planned.

This Spanish sparkling wine is made using the traditional method – the same process used for Champagne and English sparkling wines. The result is a crisp, elegant fizz with fresh citrus notes, fine bubbles and enough complexity to keep wine lovers happy, all without the Champagne price tag.

It’s currently included in Asda’s 3 for £18 offer, bringing the price down to a frankly ridiculous £6 a bottle. If you see me clearing the shelves in your local store, no, you didn’t!

If you normally drink pinot grigio, consider giving this Sicilian grillo a go instead. It offers a similar bright lemony acidity, but is richer, with a little more texture and overall oomph.

And just as we've seen the likes of picpoul and albarino grow in popularity of late, we wouldn’t be surprised if grillo is next in line.

It’s made for sunny days, with thirst-quenching minerality and a crisp finish – just the thing for seafood and Mediterranean dishes.

Medal: Gold, 95 points

If there’s a barbecue in your diary this summer, this is the bottle we’d be bringing. Rich enough for steak, relaxed enough for burgers and sausages, and currently just £8.20 a bottle, it’s a Gold medal-winning red that massively overdelivers on price.

Medal: Top Value Gold, 95 points

Marks & Spencer’s Found range is an excellent place to find hidden gems. It focuses on lesser-known grapes and regions that often deliver serious value for money – and this Macedonian red is an absolute powerhouse for the price.

Made from the indigenous kratosija grape, it’s bold, juicy and full of character, with notes of dark berries, forest fruits and a gentle smokiness. Style-wise, it sits in a similar camp to Italian primitivo or Californian zinfandel, so expect plenty of ripe fruit and warmth.

In short, it’s exactly the sort of red we’d open with barbecued meat, burgers or anything smokey from the grill. A proper hidden gem for £9.
