Behind Her Eyes
Behind Her Eyes isn't exactly stress-free viewing, but it's absolutely worth watching anyway. Louise (Simona Brown) is a single mum to a young boy and works part time at a psychiatrist's office. Her life is seemingly straightforward - peaceful even - until she starts an affair with her boss, Dr David Ferguson (Tom Bateman). To make things even more complicated, she strikes up a friendship with his enigmatic wife, Adele (Eve Hewson), who's harbouring a few secrets of her own. Expect a huge twist! Behind Her Eyes is available to watch now on Netflix.
The Jetty
We already know how commanding Jenna Coleman is on screen (thank you, Victoria), but she really shines in The Jetty. The British crime drama sees her play DC Ember Manning, who's on a mission to uncover the link between a missing person's cold case and a fire that destroys a house being developed into a holiday home. Ember pushes her mental - and physical - limits to find the links between the cold case, the arson attack and an an illicit relationship between a man in his twenties and two underage girls. The Jetty is available to watch now on BBC iPlayer.
Top of the Lake
Loved The Handmaid's Tale? Elisabeth Moss is just as good as Detective Robin Griffin in this gritty crime thriller. Not one to shy away from challenging cases, she finds herself investigating the disappearance of a pregnant 12-year-old girl in a remote mountain town in New Zealand and, as she becomes more embroiled in the case, she unearths some secrets about her own past that change everything. The series was such a hit that it spawned a second instalment, which is equally enthralling. Top of the Lake is available to watch now on U.
Save Me
It's eight years since Save Me first aired and if there's a drama worth revisiting, it's this one. The series follows Nelson “Nelly” Rowe (Lennie James), a sofa-surfing Londoner who's been accused of kidnapping his estranged teenage daughter Jody (Indeyarna Donaldson-Holness). Suranne Jones gives an impeccable performance as his wife, Claire, while Stephen Graham stars as Nelly's best friend and convicted sex offender, Fabio "Melon" Melonzola. Fantastic from start to finish. Save Me is available to watch now on Sky.
The Secrets She Keeps
This next series is adapted from Michael Robotham's 2017 novel and takes us Down Under where two heavily pregnant women, blogger Meghan (Jessica De Gouw) and Aggie (Laura Carmichael), share the same due date and an increasingly strange connection. Meghan is expecting her third child with her distracted husband Jack (Michael Dorman), while Aggie is awaiting her first with an estranged partner. So far, so straightforward - but after a chance encounter, Aggie begins to show an unhealthy interest in Meghan and a shock twist leads to something much darker. The Secrets She Keeps is available to watch NOW on Channel 4.
A Mother’s Son
If you enjoyed Netflix's Adolescence, A Mother's Son is a must-watch. The drama centres around Rosie (Hermione Norris) who has a beautiful family life with husband Ben (Martin Clunes) and their four children. When she begins to suspect her son Jamie (Alexander Arnold) is hiding a dark secret - that he's behind the murder of a local schoolgirl - she faces the dilemma no parent wants to even imagine. Nicola Walker also stars as DC Sue Upton, who is investigating the crime, and she's as brilliant as you'd hope. A Mother’s Son is available to watch NOW on ITV.
A Touch of Cloth
One for those who think police procedurals take themselves a little bit too seriously, A Touch of Cloth parodies them in hilarious fashion. Known for its gags and satirical take on the cliches found in classic crime dramas, the series follows heavy-drinking DCI Jack Cloth (John Hannah) and DC Anne Oldman (Suranne Jones) as they investigate increasingly absurd murders in the “City of Town” while reporting back to their impatient boss. It's a highly inventive series that provides non-stop laughs. A Touch of Cloth is available to watch now on Sky.
