A romcom with a Cold War twist? Yes, please! From the producers of Killing Eve, the new thriller takes us to East Berlin in 1982. Martha (Ann Skelly) is a deep-cover agent for MI6. She’s begrudgingly deployed as a honey trap, because of her gender, but she’s far smarter than her male bosses give her credit for. With endless threats and enemies, she must stay one step ahead to avoid detection. The impulsive spy finds herself at the centre of a love triangle between Friedrich (Jannis Niewöhner), the new Stasi head of counterespionage against British targets, and CIA agent Aaron Neeland (Nate Mann). He uses the alias Kurt Fischer and is reckless, arrogant and incredibly attractive. Surely this dangerous ménage à trois is destined to end badly... Honey will premiere on Saturday 14 November at 9pm on BBC One, with all episodes dropping at the same time on BBC iPlayer.

No spy roundup would be complete without a le Carré adaptation, which we’re calling the next Slow Horses. The upcoming BBC thriller is based on The Spy Who Came In From The Cold and material from his 2017 novel A Legacy Of Spies. The story begins in the shadow of the newly erected Berlin Wall. World-weary agent-runner and British intelligence officer Alec Leamas (Charlie Hunnam) watches his last agent get shot dead and thinks the Cold War is over. Then he’s offered a new opportunity for revenge and recruits Doris Quinz (Devrim Lingnau Islamoğlu), a young and vivacious East German woman, to smuggle Stasi documents into the West. Matthew Macfadyen is bringing the iconic spymaster George Smiley to life, as he operates behind the scenes. Legacy Of Spies is coming to the BBC. We’ll keep you updated here as soon as we have an official date.

What if Britain was occupied by the USA? The new dystopian drama sets out to explore the idea. Inspired by Jean-Pierre Melville’s 1969 film and Joseph Kessel’s seminal book of the same name, we’re transported to an alternate Britain where a resistance is breaking out. Everything looks normal but is slightly off. Nobody says anything out loud, but everyone can feel the dark grip of censorship. Berry, a former soldier, begins building a secret resistance network, recruiting an unlikely team around him. If you weren’t already tempted, it’s a star-studded cast including the likes of Olivia Colman, America Ferrera, Paddy Considine and Kit Harington. Army Of Shadows is coming to Channel 4. We’ll keep you updated here as soon as we have an official start date.
