Instantly, this mug's grippy, smooth silicone exterior and attractive design set it apart from the others in our tests. Though this mug is heavier than the others we tested, we love that the shape sits comfortably in your hand and the rubbery finish reduces the risk of a messy slip.
During testing, ice water in this tumbler only warmed by 8°F in six hours, which is the least of any cup we assessed; it does its job of insulating liquids well. The mug also earned high marks in our spill tests. When dropped, the cup only lost a small amount of water along the edges of the lid and wasn't damaged or dented. It also didn't leak when we shook it upside down, though after 30 seconds on its side, a small amount of water seeped out.
Perhaps most notably, this is the only mug with a ceramic-coated interior, which spared our wine the tinny, metallic taste you sometimes get from stainless steel mugs.
We love that, unlike most insulated wine tumblers we tested, the RTIC cup is dishwasher-safe. The snap-top lid is easy to open and close, and it fits a generous 12-ounce pour.

Contigo makes one of the most airtight travel coffee mugs we've used, so it's no surprise we're also fans of the brand's sleek insulated wine tumblers. This 12-ounce cup is one of the lightest we tried, making it great for picnics and camping. It has the classic shape of a stemless wine glass, and the shiny stainless steel construction looks great.
In our temperature tests, the liquid in this mug warmed by 23°F over six hours. While this is a higher jump than the pricier cups we tested, if you're not lingering over your wine for several hours, it's certainly not a deal-breaker.
Contigo's wine tumbler was one of the most watertight in our tests. It fared very well when dropped, with no leaks or dents, and the lid stayed firmly in place. Note that this tumbler is not dishwasher-safe.

The Corkcicle wine tumbler is one of the easiest-to-use cups we tested. It has an attractive tapered shape with slightly flattened sides for a comfortable, secure grip. It's also light, making it great for travel. A rubberized pad on the bottom helps prevent spills, and the clear plastic lid slides open and closed easily.
Ice water in this mug increased by 13°F over six hours, which was on par with many of the other products we assessed. The mug resisted leaking for two drops, but the lid flew off on the third. That said, the mug was undamaged.
Though this mug is not dishwasher-safe, our tester said it was one of the easiest to drink from, thanks to a small spout that didn't drip or splatter.

The flat bottom on this Toadfish tumbler resists spills better than the rounded cups we tested. The sticky rubberized base adheres so well to countertops and tables that it can be difficult to remove at times. This is great if you take the cup on a boat or around kids or pets who could knock it over (plus, this mug wasn't quite as leakproof as others we tried).
Over six hours, the ice water in this mug increased by 15°F, from 40°F to 55°F. This was in the same ballpark as most mugs we tested. However, the Toadfish mug did a better job of chilling the water at the start of the test than most of the competition.
This mug has a smaller capacity than our other favorites, but we love that it's dishwasher-safe. The clear plastic lid has a simple slide-to-lock function that's easy to operate and comfortable to drink from.

Others we tested
- Yeti Rambler Wine Tumbler: This cute tumbler comes in a range of fun colors, and ice water only gained 13°F over six hours. It also resisted leaks well when we shook it upside-down. However, this cup is on the heavier side at 9.4 ounces with a 10-ounce capacity, and all of the water poured out during drop testing when the mouth cover popped open.
- Hydro Flask Wine Tumbler: This lightweight 10-ounce tumbler has a flatter, more stable bottom than others we tested, but our tester found it harder to drink from, and the lid did not prevent leaks.
- Swell Wine Tumbler: This is one of the lightest cups we tested, at 6 ounces. It did a great job of insulating ice water, which rose by 12°F in six hours. However, our tester found this 10-ounce tumbler slightly awkward to hold because of its squat, rounded shape. The lid leaked a bit, and though it didn't dent when dropped, the lid flew off easily.
- Stanley Reserve Wine Tumbler: This fancy-looking insulated tumbler has a pretty swirled design and is dishwasher-safe, which is always a plus. Our tester found the lid more difficult to operate than others, and it leaked when turned upside down or knocked on its side. That said, we appreciated the excellent insulation, as the ice water only gained 9°F in six hours.
- Built Cascade Wine Tumbler: We like that this tumbler has a 12-ounce capacity and an easy-open lid, but it wasn't leakproof, and our tester found it uncomfortable to hold.
- Klean Kanteen Rise Wine Tumbler: Our tester liked that she could sip from this wine tumbler like a regular wine glass, but only because there's no lid, so it's not spill-resistant.
- High Camp Flask All-In-One Two-Piece Set: This set includes an insulated wine flask with a matching 10.5-ounce cup that resembles a stemless wine glass. The cup is small and comfortable to hold, but the lack of a lid means it's not spill-resistant and can't maintain a stable temperature.
How we tested insulated wine tumblers
In the Good Housekeeping Institute Kitchen Appliances and Innovation Lab, we evaluated each insulated wine tumbler for leakage, temperature retention, durability, and ease of use.
✔️ Temperature retention: We filled each cup with an equal proportion of water and ice according to the mug's capacity. We then recorded the water temperature every two hours for a six-hour period.
✔️ Leakage: We filled each tumbler with water and left it on its side for 30 seconds. We also shook the bottle upside down to see how much water, if any, came out.
✔️ Durability: We use our drop-testing machine to drop each closed tumbler (filled with water) from three feet.
✔️ Ease of use: We filled the tumblers with wine and sipped to assess how easy they are to fill, hold, and drink from, including operating the lid. We considered whether the materials affected the wine's taste and how easy they were to clean.
What to consider when shopping for the best insulated wine tumblers
✔️ Materials: Most insulated wine tumblers are made from stainless steel, which is a durable, insulating material that's great for use indoors and out. That said, an all-stainless interior can impart a slightly metallic taste to your wine, which is why we love that the RTIC Happy Hour Wine Tumbler has a ceramic coating. A rubberized bottom, which both the Toadfish and Corkcicle tumblers have, helps keep your cup stable on a flat surface.
✔️ Lid: A tight-fitting lid that's easy to open and close is essential in a tumbler that you plan to take on the go. We like clear plastic lids that resist damage when dropped and let you see the liquid in your cup. Lids with a locking mechanism ensure extra leakproof protection.
✔️ Insulation: All of our picks are made of stainless steel, which is a great insulator for cold liquids. The RTIC tumbler is double-insulated but performed better in our temperature maintenance test than the triple-insulated Corkcicle mug.
