Criminal Minds: Evolution is officially back on the air … and fans already have thoughts about a major change this season.
Season 4 (season 19 overall) of the Criminal Minds reboot premiered on May 28. While this installment no doubt has twists and turns on the way, longtime viewers know they can trust section chief Emily Prentiss (Paget Brewster), agents David Rossi (Joe Mantegna), Luke Alves (Adam Rodriguez), JJ Jareau (A.J. Cook), Dr. Tara Lewis (Aisha Tyler), and technical analyst Penelope Garcia (Kirsten Vangsness) to appear throughout the season.
But after an Instagram promo ahead of the show’s premiere, fans realized UnSub Elias Voit (Zach Gilford) would also be back.
“Now’s your chance to catch up with #CriminalMindsEvolution before Season 19 begins May 28,” the caption read alongside a video montage featuring Voit from seasons past.
Given how Voit has had quite a volatile journey on Criminal Minds: Evolution, his presence sparked a debate in the comments.
“We're tired of Voit. We want his storyline to end, it's getting stale guys. This better be the last season about him,” one person wrote. “Ugh we are still on this guy?! Literally skipped last season hoping his storyline would get wrapped up 🫠,” another agreed. “Omg is this storyline stillllllll going 😴,” a different follower added.
Other viewers were intrigued to see what Voit would bring this time around.
“Hot take I DO love him. I just need our MAIN characters to have bigger storylines again too,” one person commented. “You guys can be mad all you want but the character is funny af,” another penned. “I mean...Voit has been one heck of an antagonist, you can't deny it 👏,” a different viewer pointed out.
While Voit will always be known as Sicarius and the creator of an underground killer network, the season 3 (season 18 overall) finale showed he needs to face the inner demons from his past.
Zach teased that Voit may not necessarily look the same in the new season.
“Voit knows he can't bring anyone back or change what he's done," Zach exclusively told Good Housekeeping about Voit back in July 2025. "Even if he thought he would never kill or hurt someone again, there's parts of him that are still there. They could be manipulative, intimidating or getting angry about who knows what. But that ideal could keep people on edge and thinking, 'Is he going to snap or is he just losing his temper?' There's always a chance he could re-associate back into that character again."
Looks like we’ll need to tune in to see what Voit is up to this time around…
