Dancing With the Stars judge Derek Hough announced the death of his dog, Romie.

The dancer took to Instagram to reflect on Romie's impact on his life.

Derek Hough is paying tribute to a special pet.

On October 25, the Dancing With the Stars judge revealed the loss of his beloved dog, Romie. Romie was 14 years old when he died, and Derek took to Instagram to reflect on their bond.

“Romie came into my life when I was just trying to figure life out; it was just me and him,” he wrote. “And for a long time, he was my constant. He saw me at my worst and at my best. He loved me through it all and somehow gave me purpose when I couldn’t find it myself. He watched me grow up, fall in love, become a husband. And when he started to get tired, I asked him to hold on so he could meet his little sister, and he kept his promise. He held on.”

“Waking up without him feels unreal,” he added. “I keep looking at that spot where he’d usually come around the bushes, waiting, hoping. It’s strange to know he won’t come around that bend again. But thank you, my boy, for choosing us, for carrying me, for giving me so much. There’s an ache that feels unbearable. But it’s also proof that love lived here fully. And you always will. Goodbye for now, my sweet sweet Romie Boy 💔🐕.”

As soon as Derek shared the heartbreaking news, his DWTS community gave their condolences.

“Wrapping you in love ❤️,” Derek’s sister, Julianne Hough, wrote in the comments. “Sorry for your loss 💔,” pro dancer Pasha Pashkov penned. “Ohhhh I know this pain so well 😭 Romie is your angel spirit now, still with you 🥹 sending you and the family so much love ❤️ 🙏🏻,” season 35 contestant and The Rookie star Jenna Dewan added.

Fans were equally emotional about Romie’s death.

“So sorry for your loss. These precious paws leave forever heart prints in our lives,” one person consoled. “It’s one of the hardest things, can’t imagine to lose my 4-legged baby. Sending love to you all. RIP ❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹,” another said. “I’m sorry Derek 😢 it’s not easy! Thoughts and prayers are with you guys 🫶,” a different follower replied.
