Law & Order: SVU has been renewed for season 28, premiering on October 8, 2026, on NBC.
Fans learned from Ice-T that the hit drama is in production, with the cast filming new episodes.
It’s official: we’re heading back to the SVU sooner than we think.
Law & Order: SVU was renewed for season 28 earlier this year, and fans are ready to see Mariska Hargitay (Olivia Benson), Ice-T (Fin Tutuola), Kelli Giddish (Amanda Rollins), and the rest of the cast again. While the actual season isn’t set to premiere until Thursday, October 8, 2026, at 9 p.m. ET on NBC, fans got the ultimate surprise ahead of time.
Thanks to a new post on X from Ice-T, viewers learned that Law & Order: SVU is now in production for season 28.
“SVU is back!” Ice-T wrote alongside a selfie with Mariska on July 22. “First day of filming today. Season 28 @WolfEnt Let’s go!”
The news had fans thrilled for what’s to come.
“Can’t wait for this season to start up again 😊,” one person wrote in the comments. “Season 28! Congratulations to all of you!!!!!” another cheered. “Yaaasss, bring on season 28! ❤️❤️,” a different follower added.
We’re not sure exactly what to expect from the new season, but we do know that all the series regulars from last time are set to return. Meaning: along with Mariska, Ice-T, and Kelli, Peter Scanavino (Sonny Carisi), Kevin Kane (Terry Bruno), Aimé Donna Kelly (Renee Curry), and Corey Cott (Jake Griffin) will reprise their roles.
Mariska herself has been adamant that she’ll stay as long as she’s enjoying herself.
“I love my job. I love going to work every day. I love the community that I'm in,” Hargitay told NBC Insider back in 2023. “I love my cast, my crew, and I love the intimacy of it all and the fact that we work in a culture that says, 'Let's do the work, let's have a fun time, and the best idea wins.' It is such a team. It is such an incredible team, and we rely so much on each other. We're a unit. It's so sacred to me.”
We can’t wait!
