The View is celebrating a major milestone with its 30th season.
The View just celebrated its 30th season on the air—and Whoopi Goldberg is opening up about her future on the show.
As a co-host since 2007, Whoopi has seen plenty of co-hosts come and go, including Rosie O’Donnell, Raven-Symoné, Meghan McCain, and more. But in an interview with People to celebrate the ABC series’ milestone season, she admitted she, too, has thought about how much longer she wants to stay.
“Oh, I’ve thought about leaving all the time, all the time,” Whoopi said in the interview published on September 14. “It’s a little bit shocking that I’m here as long as I have been. I didn’t need to hear that today, but we’re lucky. We’re really, really lucky.”
She also noted that when she first joined the show, she felt some apprehension. But creator Barbara Walters gave her the courage she needed to step outside her comfort zone.
“She said, ‘Will you come and do this?’ I said, ‘I don’t know how to do this,’” Whoopi added. “She said, ‘It’ll be all right. You just do lead-ins.’ It’s like, ‘Oh, okay.’ So I came, and then she gave me the job.”
Whoopi explained she wants to bring out the best in all of her viewers—and she makes sure to do so with the positive mantras she shares at the end of every episode.
“I wanted to give people a little message of hope,” she noted. “The topics we’re covering every day can be heavy and hopefully, this allows people at home to feel a little lighter.”
We love how special this is for her!
