Great news for anyone with even a passing interest in fashion: Uniqlo has finally launched its long awaited collaboration with Scandi designer Cecilie Bahnsen. Known for her endlessly romantic silhouettes, adorned with frills and frothy detailing, the collection has already been dubbed by fashion insiders as one of Uniqlo’s most exciting collaborations to date.
Of course, we’re not forgetting the brand’s previous partnership with Anya Hindmarch last year, nor its ongoing alliance with Northern Irish designer JW Anderson. Then there’s Uniqlo:C, the stylish collection overseen by former Chloé and Givenchy designer Clare Waight Keller. Yet, despite its impressive roster of luxe collaborations, what sets Uniqlo x Cecilie Bahnsen apart is its distinctly romantic feel - something I noticed immediately when I spotted the floaty Shirring Dress.
Featuring frilled accents around the waist and along the straps, the dress captures the charm synonymous with Cecilie Bahnsen’s stellar line up of frocks, particularly the Uki midi, which features similar asymmetric ruffles along the silhouette. It also incorporates the tiered elements the designer is known for, alongside a fitted bodice for a polished finish. The key difference here, however, is the under £50 price point.
Available in three different colours - a picnic blanket inspired gingham print, a classic black and a striking red - the dress is the perfect summer holiday companion. I can already picture myself wearing the crimson version on holiday in Malta come July, paired with black leather sandals for an easy day to night outfit formula.
As with plenty of other Uniqlo staples, there’s a wide range of sizes to choose from, spanning XXS to XL. Hurry though, because while there are plenty available now, they’re bound to sell out quickly.
