When it comes to building a consistent summer wardrobe you can rely on for years, one vital ingredient matters most: luxury-coded sandals.
To my mind, having a pair that look elegant, timeless and luxurious is essential. I haven’t been without my version of this summer shoe for more than twenty years.
Why? Because whether in town, city or on holiday, having sandals that work like a dream with white jeans, cotton dresses, wide-leg linen trousers and a raffia bag makes summer chic a five second job.
You might be wondering what summer sandal could do all that. Luckily, I know. It’s this exact style: a flat, slip-on mule with cutwork detailing. Hermès has been making a version for as long as I can remember. Theirs, featuring a cutwork “H”, costs £640.
So when Marks and Spencer release their annual take on this sandal, as they did this week, and they cost just £26, that is worth sharing.
M&S’ sandals come in a soft tan suede, as well as rich brown and, my personal favourite, a punchy orange leather.
Add one pair of these into your summer rotation, and you’ll soon understand why they are a perennial summer favourite for stylish women everywhere.
If you think a pair would work for you, trust me when I advise you buy them sooner rather than later. They always sell out.
Because when you know, you know.
