It wouldn’t be an overstatement to say that the cropped jacket has dominated the style conversation this season. Whether crafted from denim, satin or classic cotton, the airy, shortened design has taken over the fashion crowd, and I can practically guarantee that every well-dressed woman owns one, including me, without sounding too conceited.

But just when I thought I had seen them all, the high street released a brand new style that has completely updated the look we’ve seen plenty of this season. The brand in question? Unsurprisingly, it’s M&S, and in my humble opinion, it’s undoubtedly the key jacket you need now that we’ve welcomed spring and warmer weather (within reason, of course).

Enter the Linen Blend Lightweight Harrington Jacket, a genius staple that is not only chic but incredibly practical, thanks to its lightweight linen fabric, which is incredibly unique. Yet it’s not just its lightweight material that makes it a sartorial standout.

M&S may have labelled it as a Harrington jacket, but I feel obliged to point out that it also combines two other styles: the blouson and the bomber, two key jacket designs that have been everywhere this season. Why? It’s down to the details, from the drawstring waistband that bears a striking resemblance to floaty blouson styles from Chloé, to the shortened, waist-length silhouette that characterises a classic bomber.

For day-to-day errand runs, pair the jacket with a boxy white tee, a classic pair of jeans and a pair of chic black loafers for a touch of sophistication. Then, when it comes to the evening, keep the classic tee and swap the jeans for a pair of wide-leg, tailored trousers and pointed kitten heels that are as walkable as they are stylish.
