There comes a point where you realise that building a good wardrobe isn’t always about having the latest thing. It’s about carefully choosing foundational items that elevate your style and instantly make you look chic and feel polished.
Often these hardworking, confidence-giving pieces are hard to find, or too expensive. But I have good news. John Lewis has just released a collaboration with designer Rejina Pyo that is full of exactly these high quality clothes, and some head-turning shoes, at prices that feel surprisingly accessible.
If you don’t already know Rejina Pyo’s work, since launching in 2014, she has quietly built a loyal following of women who trust her to create modern, directional clothes that help them feel like the best version of themselves.
I can confirm that every piece I tried gave me all of that. The button detail sleeveless midi dress, which also comes in a saffron orange, feels luxurious and instantly chic. If you’re looking to update your little black dress, or go bright with the orange, this is one you can rely on for years.
The butter yellow linen suit was a surprising hit, too. As soon as I tried it, I could immediately see how useful it would be for weddings and occasions. On its own, the jacket works with jeans and midi skirts, and the loose-fit trousers can be worn with a white shirt or T-shirt.
The same yellow linen also comes as tailored shorts, which I paired with my favourite item in the collection, and a Rejina Pyo signature, the contrast stitching black satin shirt.
This shirt, cut to follow the waist, can be worn buttoned up and tucked in for smarter looks, or open and untucked, as I’ve worn it here. No matter which way it’s styled, this shirt has a polish that looks and feels luxurious, and you’ll wear it again and again. It also comes with matching trousers, for a full look.
My biggest surprise in the range was a pair of sky blue flat mules with a giant crystal buckle sitting on top. Not a style I’d normally consider, but they lift everything you pair them with, and they are selling out fast.
This level of consideration, along with surprising and inspiring touches like the shoes, makes this a collection I’d genuinely recommend.
