When does a beach dress become more than a beach dress? Easy. When it comes in a polka dot, the only print that’s chic and playful at once. And let’s face it, chic and playful is all we want to feel in summer.
There are many reasons this Next dress is worth every penny of its £46 cost. First the fabric, a light, airy viscose which is not see through. Second, the cut is generously loose and billowing, with wide sleeves, side splits and a pulled in waist which you can tie to suit your shape, your mood, or the setting in which you are wearing it.
Finally, something that’s instantly obvious – this really is a dress you can wear from the beach straight to a night out. We have the polka dot to thank for that part.
Only yesterday I wore Boden’s matching polka dot linen shorts and waistcoat set to get into the mood for watching Wimbledon, while fashion editor Emma Richardson wore the Renne polka dot top by Nobody’s Child.
I can report, polka dots feel good to wear, and makes other people smile. Double points.
Really, I’ve got to hand it to Next. There are dozens if not hundreds of beach dresses out there to choose from for your summer holiday.
But if you’re looking for one that you can wear day and night on holiday and back home too, this is the one that will work hardest, and might be the thing you end up wearing the most.
And it’ll look just as great next year too.
