Sometimes, you fall in love in the aisles of M&S - and no, I’m not referring to the extensive picky bits section - I'm talking about the clothing department. On my recent trip, it was a chiffon polka-dot dress that instantly caught my eye, and ever since spotting it (ahem), I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it since.
It’s no secret that here at GH, we have a soft spot for the timeless polka dot. When a print has the seal of approval from the likes of the Princess of Wales, how can we resist?
But this version puts a twist on the original monochrome colour combination. M&S's style comes in burgundy and baby pink: two chic, popular shades that surprisingly work brilliantly together. The oversized pink spots compliments the rich merlot base, making this dress feel just as right for the end of summer as it will when autumn arrives.
While the colour combination was what initially caught my eye, the flattering silhouette is what truly sold it for me.
As always, M&S gets instant brownie points for sleeves. Like many, I prefer to keep my upper arms covered, but never at the expense of style. Here, the addition of endlessly floaty angel sleeves doesn’t just feel practical, but also very feminine and pretty. Their flared shape creates a romantic, wing like effect (hence the name).
The flattering details don’t stop there. An empire seam, sitting just beneath the bust, helps to elongate the silhouette - something I can certainly appreciate at 5'3". Meanwhile, the lightweight chiffon skirt will skim gently over the body, floating rather than clinging to it.
It’s the kind of dress that’s designed to look good on every shape. Better yet, finding the right fit is that much easier, thanks to petite, regular and tall lengths.
My favourite thing about dresses? How easy they make getting ready. You can put in minimal effort and still look incredibly chic.
All you need to consider is your accessories. Right now, I’m planning on wearing mine with my favourite ballet pumps and oversized sunnies. Come autumn, I’ll swap them for knee high boots and my trusty suede tote.
