Can I make a confession? Usually, I absolutely dread rainy-day dressing. My trusty black raincoat might be practical, but it has an awful habit of ruining my favourite outfits. This year, though, I’ve actually found myself looking forward to the rain. Why? It’s all thanks to M&S and a raincoat that I’m genuinely excited to wear.
As it turns out, colour is the perfect antidote to rainy days. Designed in a vivid poppy red, M&S’ utility rain parka offers a welcome departure from the predictable (read: boring) waterproofs I’ve become so used to wearing.
Instead, this feels sleek and genuinely considered – rather than simply being the jacket you throw on mindlessly at the first sign of rain (guilty).
Designed in a longline parka style, it offers more-than-ample coverage against the elements, while still looking effortlessly stylish. The relaxed fit and billowy sleeves give it a modern feel but a cinched waist means you don’t lose any shape, either.
Just because it’s stylish doesn’t mean M&S have compromised on practicality. A big adjustable hood keeps your hair shielded from the rain, while deep, poppered pockets mean everything you need is in reach. It’s easy to see why this has quickly become a bestseller on the site.
You might have noticed that red is having quite the moment in fashion right now. In fact, M&S’ new ‘Love That’ collection is packed with the vibrant, poppy hue. It comes after designer brands such as 16Arlington and Chanel cemented red as a key colour in their autumn/winter 2026 collections.
Naturally, the shade is taking over the high street (and our rainwear). & Other Stories has a brilliant 80s-inspired bomber in a bright tomato hue, though this is better suited to lighter showers as it doesn’t have a hood. Or, if you’re really in the mood to treat yourself (hello, payday!), Free People’s red waterproof pullover is on the top of my wishlist.
Rainy-day dressing will never be boring again.
