While it’s not quite time to dig out my cosy knits, I can’t help but feel excited about resetting my wardrobe as we move into autumn. This time of year is all about easing into the new season: think rich colours and versatile pieces that work well now, but can easily be layered up when colder days arrive. It’s not always easy to find that balance, but Sainsbury’s has got it just right with their £26 jersey dress.
Supermarket fashion is having a big moment right now (and it’s certainly made the weekly shop a little more bearable). Of course, affordability is always a winner, but it’s the sheer wearability of pieces like this that’s making Sainsbury’s a rival to the high street.
Crafted from 100% cotton, Tu’s jersey dress promises to be soft and breathable. It’ll keep you cool on your commute to the office (when will the tube stop feeling so sweaty?), but when colder weather arrives, it’ll work just as well layered up.
For me, office dressing is all about feeling like my most put-together self without sacrificing comfort. Luckily, this dress ticks both boxes.
Think of it as a T-shirt dress with a little extra polish. Cut to a flattering midi length, it has a relaxed A-line silhouette, while the tie belt defines the waist and adds shape. And, of course, there are the easy, relaxed sleeves — you really can’t go wrong with a dress that has sleeves.
Available in two colours, I was immediately drawn to the black. I’ll confess, the moment summer is over, the dark shade takes over my wardrobe. It looks chic every time and goes with everything I own. That said, I’m also very tempted by the dark raspberry — it has all the richness of burgundy, but feels a little fresher for the start of autumn.
Right now, the dress works brilliantly on its own, with just a few accessories needed to dress it up for back-to-office season. Ballet flats and your favourite sunnies will add instant polish. Come cooler weather, though, there’s even more room to play. Try layering tall boots and tights underneath, then add a lightweight bomber jacket over the top.
Chic, comfortable and easy to style both now and later in the season, it’s hard to ask for much more from a £26 dress.
