The results are officially in for the Good Housekeeping Institute’s annual Easter Taste Tests - and this year Sainsbury’s has taken the top scoring spot across all categories for 2026.
Our expert panel tasted their way through more than 100 Easter eggs, sampling everything from creamy milk chocolate and sweet white chocolate to rich, intense dark varieties to find the very best options on the high street this year.
The egg that came out on top was Sainsbury’s Taste the Difference Extra Large The Mint One Belgian Dark Chocolate Easter Egg, which not only won Best Dark Chocolate Easter Egg, but also achieved the highest overall score of the entire test, earning an impressive 89 out of 100. In doing so, it beat big-name brands including Lindt and Cadbury.
This indulgent egg is packed with layers of minty goodness, featuring crunchy mint pieces, rich cocoa cookie and cooling mint flavour running through the dark chocolate shell. The combination creates a chocolate that’s rich, refreshing and seriously moreish.
Our testers praised the egg for its indulgent mint-choc-chip aroma and polished presentation. The design is simple but striking, with slick swirled grooves that immediately catch the eye. Once cracked open, the panel loved the bright, vibrant mint flavour that pairs beautifully with the deep richness of the Belgian dark chocolate, while the crunchy cocoa cookie and mint pieces add a satisfying texture in every bite.
It retails for £10 for a 230g egg, but Nectar card holders can currently pick it up for £7.50, making it much more affordable if you're looking to save where you can.
