A few days ago, news emerged of a shocking large-scale theft involving over 400,000 KitKat products, after a lorry carrying more than 12 tonnes of chocolate from Nestle was intercepted while travelling between Italy and Poland. The incident has been described as a major blow to supply, with the entire shipment stolen, sparking concerns about potential knock-on effects across Europe, particularly in the lead-up to Easter.
With Easter egg season in full swing, this raised questions about whether shelves might start to look a little emptier - especially for popular brands like KitKat. However, there’s no need to panic just yet. We’ve taken a look at current stock levels across UK supermarkets, and at the moment, availability appears to be very stable. Shelves are still well stocked with KitKat products, including Easter eggs, so it doesn’t look like shoppers will feel the impact here in the UK for now.
But, interestingly, we did spot an offer too good to resist, with the KitKat Chunky Easter Egg currently on offer for just £1, proving there are still plenty of deals to be found if you’re planning your Easter shop early.
If you're shopping at Tesco this year, if you use your Tesco Clubcard, you can snap up the Easter egg for only £1 (reduced from £2), and includes a medium sized chocolate egg, plus a snack size KitKat Chunky bar in the pack too. We're definitely going to pick up a few of these, and gift to our friends when we host this Easter.
