It's not the first time Oreo has treated us to a twist on its classic biscuit, but it is the first time the iconic twist-and-lick snack has gone purple.
We've enjoyed the Matcha, Double Creme and Brownie Oreos over the years, but we think this is one of the brand's most exciting launches yet – and possibly its best flavour so far.
The brand's first-ever purple biscuit is sandwiched around a sweet brown sugar pancake-flavoured creme inspired by hotteok, the popular Korean street food.
For anyone unfamiliar, hotteok is a sweet pancake typically filled with a gooey mixture of brown sugar and cinnamon before being cooked until golden and caramelised. And yes, it’s every bit as sweet and delicious as that sounds. And just wait until you try it dunked in a hot cup of tea – bliss.
We were lucky enough to try the biscuits ahead of their UK launch and, while the Original Oreo will always have a special place in our hearts (and biscuit tin), this version is surprisingly moreish. The rich brown sugar filling has warm caramel notes and a subtle pancake sweetness that feels less intensely chocolatey than the classic biscuit, making it dangerously easy to reach for another (and another!).
The eye-catching purple biscuit itself doesn't taste particularly different from an original Oreo, but they're certainly a talking point.
The launch has been created in collaboration with K-pop superstars BTS, who recently performed at the FIFA World Cup Final halftime show. According to Oreo, the band wanted to create a flavour inspired by their Korean roots, and as part of the collaboration, packs also feature six bespoke biscuit embossments designed by the group.
Where can I buy the Oreo BTS Brown Sugar Pancake biscuits?
The limited-edition Oreo BTS Brown Sugar Pancake biscuits are available now in Tesco (£1.50) and Asda (for just 85p!) before rolling out more widely for a limited time.
If you're an Oreo fan looking for something a little different, we'd recommend snapping up a pack while you can. For us, this limited-edition flavour is a welcome twist on the original – and one we'd happily see become a permanent addition to supermarket shelves.
