There's a new festive flavour that's just dropped into town for Christmas 2026 and it's one of our favourite German-inspired treats: a Lebkuchen!

If you don't know what a lebkuchen is, it's a traditional Christmas biscuit packed with warming ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg and molasses, and it has inspired one of Hotel Chocolat's newest festive chocolates for 2026. And after trying it at the brand's Christmas showcase last week, we can safely say it's one of the standout launches of the season.

As part of the Lebkuchen flavoured items, there are two launches: a Supernova Selector (£4.65) which is a melt-in-the-mouth pecan praline wrapped in smooth 40% milk chocolate and infused with all the comforting spices you'd expect from a freshly baked Lebkuchen biscuit. It's like Christmas in one bite.

The flavour was such a hit that we're already counting down until Hotel Chocolat's matching Lebkuchen drinking chocolate lands in stores. We were lucky enough to sample it ahead of launch, and it was absolutely delicious – warming, comforting and beautifully spiced, with exactly the sort of rich chocolate flavour you'd hope for on a cold winter's evening. Like a literal hug in a mug.

And if you're lucky enough to own a Velvetiser, the Good Housekeeping Institute awarded the latest hot chocolate maker an impressive 92/100 in our roundup of the best hot chocolate makers, with testers praising the silky, creamy drinks it produced and how well it blended both dairy and plant-based milks.

The Lebkuchen chocolates are available now as part of Hotel Chocolat's Christmas collection, which launched earlier this month, while the drinking chocolate will launch on the 2nd November. If this flavour is anything to go by, we have a feeling it's about to give gingerbread a serious run for its money this Christmas.
